Purpose of D.E.A.F.

Deaf Education, Awareness and Fellowship

 

The student organization, D.E.A.F., is comprised of full and/or part-time students majoring in Education of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, minoring in Deaf Studies, or others interested in issues related to deafness. 

 

The purposes of the organization are to:

1. Provide for the free interchange of views concerning the methods and means of educating deaf and hard of hearing students.
2. Provide students in the teacher preparation program an opportunity for professional growth and leadership development.
3. Promote awareness of issues in the education of individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing throughout the University of Montevallo and the local community.
4. Encourage students’ interest in issues related to Deaf culture
5. Provide a social outlet to all those interested in learning more about deafness.
