Clinical Services
Serving individuals with
communication disorders and preparing professionals is the
mission of the Clinical Services component of the CSD Department.*
The University of
Montevallo's Speech
and Hearing Center
Pediatric Services
Children of all ages may receive
diagnostic and therapy services through the
center operated by the CSD Department at the
University of Montevallo. Children can
participate in the therapy program at the center
according to their individualized needs.
However, because the University
of Montevallo Speech and Hearing Center is a training facility, the number
of clients is restricted depending on the
number of graduate clinicians and their training
needs. Some children may benefit from "after school" treatment
services while participating in their regular academic programs in
public or private schools. Families with preschool children may
need services such as those offered in our clinic. Children may be seen
several times per week for group and/or individual therapy.
Extensive diagnostic services are also available for a variety of
communication disorders. There is a nominal fee for services,
but families for whom payment
presents a financial hardship may speak to the Clinic Director for other
arrangements.
To request an evaluation or services,
families or referring professionals should call
the Center at (205) 665-6720 or fill out the Request
for Services Form and either fax (205)
665-6721 or
mail the form to the University of Montevallo Speech
and Hearing Center, Station 6720, Montevallo, AL
35115.
Adult Services
The center provides diagnostic
and therapy services for adults with various
communication disorders. Services are arranged
to meet the needs of the individual and may be
scheduled during normal business hours. However,
because the University
of Montevallo Speech and Hearing Center is a training facility, the number
of clients is restricted depending on the number
of graduate clinicians and their training needs. We have faculty and staff who are experienced in providing
services to individuals who have a wide variety of neurogenic
disorders including aphasia and apraxia from stroke, various dementias and other
degenerative disorders and myriad of disorders
resulting from persons who have experienced
traumatic brain injuries. Also, we have faculty
and staff who are experienced in the treatment
of voice and fluency disorders. There is a
nominal fee for services, but families for whom payment
presents a financial hardship may speak to the Clinic Director for other
arrangements.
