New Protocol for Network Passwords
March 2008

At the end of February 2008, the University announced a decision to implement a new protocol for network usernames and passwords.  This new protocol will go into effect on Wednesday, March 12, 2008 at 7:00 am.

One of the provisions of this new protocol requires that all network passwords expire after 180 days.  As a results, when the new protocol takes effect, every network password older than 180 days will expire.  Computer Services estimates that over 80% of network passwords currently in user will be affected.

Computer Services strongly urges you to prepare for this new protocol by changing your network password now rather than waiting until March 12th.

To change your network password, click this link and follow the instruction: CHANGE MY PASSWORD.

  • For PC users, the password you will change is the password you use to login to your computer every morning
  • For Mac users, the password you will change is the password you use to login to your email.
  • Admin (aka SIS, PLUS, Reflections) passwords are not affected by the new protocol

Please contact the Computer Services Help Desk at (205) 665-6520 between the hours of 8:00 am and 5:00 pm Monday - Friday with any questions or if you experience any problems changing your UM network password.  You may also send an email to helpdesk@montevallo.edu.
