Automatic forwarding of email from the University’s email system to a private, non-UM email address poses the risk of all email from the University being labeled as “SPAM” and, as a result, being blocked by other service providers and/or individuals. This action then prohibits the sending of legitimate email messages until the blocking can be removed. The Provost has approved the Information and Instructional Technology Committee’s recommendation to address this situation.
As of May 8, 2006, automatic forwarding of email is no longer permitted from the University’s student email system, UMail. The University assumes no responsibility for the delivery of email to systems outside the University’s purview.
This will reduce or eliminate instances wherein students lose important communications. Students are still be able to forward individual emails. Please remember that all University of Montevallo students are expected to check their UMail (official University email accounts) on a frequent and consistent basis in order to stay current with university communications. To accommodate the additional email that many students may be saving in their UMail accounts, the UMail mailbox size was increased from 5MB to 10MB effective May 8, 2006.
