Residence Hall Infrastructure Upgrades
Upgrades to the network infrastructure for personally owned (student)
computers in the residence halls were implemented during the summer of 2005. The
effects of these upgrades were as follows:
These upgrades:
- Improve network performance;
- Allow quarantine of individually infected computers to protect other
users
(viruses, spyware, or other network attacking programs).
Residents are responsible for:
- Purchasing, installing, and updating their own antivirus software;
- Personally cleaning and ensuring that their computers are virus-free;
- Configuring and trouble-shooting their own computers.
The University’s Computer Services will:
- Provide limited technical support in connecting to network in resident’s
room;
- Check network connections in a resident’s room if there appears to be a
network problem.
Please contact the Division of Student Affairs, (205) 665-6020, with any
