Guide to Student Computing

 

Welcome to student computing at the University of Montevallo!  Computer access at the University of Montevallo should be considered a privilege and not a right. Please take care to read and understand the Code for Computer Resource Use.  Contact the Computer Services Help Desk at (205) 665-6520 or via email helpdesk@montevallo.edu with any questions.

Access to Student Resources is now more readily available via a link on the University's home page (Student Resources).  It provides easy access to student email, viewing/updating address changes, registering for classes, checking grades and more.  The Student Resources page also has links to the Academic Calendar, the Bookstore, the Financial Aid office, Housing and Residence Life and other areas of interest to students.

All University of Montevallo students are provided with ForUM email accounts when they are first admitted to the University.

Frequently Asked Questions About ForUM Email

Students may also access any personal e-mail accounts via the computer labs or their residence hall connection, provided the account is web accessible.  Computer Services does not provide technical support for accessing such e-mail accounts.

Software Applications Available for Student Use

The computers in the general purpose lab located in the basement of Carmichael Library (also known as the Library Computer Lab) have the following software applications available:

• Microsoft Office Suite:
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Microsoft Word
  • Microsoft FrontPage
  • Microsoft Access
• Netscape and/or Internet Explorer
• Sophos antivirus software

Other software may be available for use based on the needs in the lab and requirements of certain classes. Students should save all personal information to their own diskettes or other media such as flash drives, CDs or DVDs.
