What is ForUM?
![]()
ForUM is the University of Montevallo’s online portal. At ForUM,
UM students can register for classes, view grades, access course materials and
more.
What is a portal?
![]()
A portal is a
website that serves as a gateway to other websites. ForUM, therefore, is a
portal to many other University of Montevallo websites, such as Banner Self
Service, Blackboard and Email. ForUM also includes links to various UM
resources, such as announcements, campus events and so forth.
How do I login to ForUM?
![]()
ForUM can be accessed from the University of Montevallo home page: www.montevallo.edu.
At the top of the home page, click the ForUM link.
How do I get my ForUM username and password?
![]()
Username:
New students receive their ForUM usernames at Orientation. Returning students
received their ForUM usernames in a packet sent to their home addresses. All
students who are unsure of their ForUM usernames can contact the Technology Services Help Desk.
Password: When first
created, your ForUM account does not have a password. You have to create your
password yourself. At the ForUM login page, look on the left of the page below
the login box; you should see a link that reads
“Set initial password.” Clicking this link will take you to a web page where
you can set your ForUM password.

Does ForUM have Email?
![]()
Username:
Your ForUM Email username is your ForUM Email address. Your ForUM Email address
is your ForUM username@forum.montevallo.edu. For example, if your ForUM
username was jsmith25, your ForUM Email address, and hence your ForUM Email
username, would be jsmith25@forum.montevallo.edu.
Password: Your ForUM Email password is the same as your ForUM password.
Answers to questions about ForUM Email are available here.
Is ForUM replacing Banner?
![]()
No. Banner will continue to be the University of Montevallo’s student
information system. ForUM is simply a means of accessing Banner and other UM
resources.
Can I view my transcript in ForUM?
![]()
Unofficial student transcripts can be viewed in Banner Self Service through
ForUM. Click the Banner tab, then click Banner Self Service on the left
side of the page. Click Student, then Student Records, then Academic
Transcript.
Does ForUM Have a Timeout Feature?
![]()
Yes.
Currently, ForUM will time you out after 15 minutes of inactivity. However,
before it does, it will ask you if you want to stay logged in. If you don’t see
the timeout warning, you may need to enable pop-ups for the ForUM web site.
Also, under certain circumstances the warning may pop-up under another window,
so watch for that.
What web browsers will work with ForUM?
![]()
PC: Internet Explorer 7, Internet Explorer 8
MAC: Safari 1.2 or higher
Other browsers,
such as Firefox, may work with ForUM, but they are not officially supported.
Can I lock myself out of ForUM?
![]()
Yes. If you try to login with the wrong password three times, your account will
be locked. Contact the Technology Services Help Desk for assistance.
Is there a way for me to reset my password if I’ve forgotten it?
![]()
Yes. On the ForUM login page, below the login box, there is a link that reads
“I forgot my password.” Clicking this link will take you to a web page where
you can reset your password using information known only to you. The process is
identical to the one where you set your initial password.
