Computer Services

Microsoft Windows XP
and the New Daylight Saving Time Law

Synopsis:
Microsoft released a DST patch for their Windows XP with Service Pack 2 operating system on November 21, 2006.  Computer Services made this patch available to the campus as an automatic download in December 2006, so most Windows XP computers on campus should already have it installed (provided they are connected to the network).

Verification:

  1. Go to Add or Remove Programs in the Control Panel:
    • Start ... Control Panel ... Add or Remove Programs   --or--
    • Start ... Settings ... Control Panel ... Add Remove Programs

  2. At the top of the Add or Remove Programs window, make sure Show updates is checked.

Note: There will be a lot of items listed in this window and they may not be in alpha-numeric order.

  3. Scroll down to the Windows XP - Software Updates section

  4. Look for the line that reads: Update for Windows XP (KB931836).

  5. If the KB931836 update is listed, your computer has the Windows XP DST patch installed.  No action is needed on your part as far as the operating system on your computer is concerned.

If you do not see this update listed, please contact the Computer Services Help Desk at (205) 665-6520 or send an email to helpdesk@montevallo.edu.
