Older Versions of Macintosh OS X
and the New Daylight Saving Time Law

Synopsis:
There are no DST patches available for versions of OSX prior to OS 10.3.  Users of earlier versions of OSX who wish to make their computers DST-compliant must either upgrade to a newer Mac operating system or manually change the time on their computer twice a year.

Procedure:

  1. Contact the Computer Services Help Desk at (205) 665-6520 or send an email to helpdesk@montevallo.edu if you wish to discuss upgrade options.

  2. If you wish to stay with an earlier version of OSX, you will have to manually change the time on your computer twice a year:
    1. Click the Apple menu, then choose System Preferences:

    2. Double click the Date & Time icon:

    3. Uncheck the Set date & time automatically box:

This step is necessary to prevent your computer from observing the old DST rules.  You will only have to do this once.

    4. Set the correct time:

You will need to manually change the time on your computer twice a year (when DST begins and ends).
