Macintosh OS 10.3
and the New Daylight Saving Time Law

Synopsis:
Apple has released a DST patch for their OS 10.3 operating system as part of their standard software update service.  If your Mac is connected to the University's network and has automatic software updates enabled, your computer probably already has the DST update installed.

Verification:
Unfortunately, there is no easy way to verify the installation of the OS 10.3 DST patch.  It does require OS 10.3.9, so if you are running 10.3.8 or earlier, you should assume that your computer does not have the DST patch, but having 10.3.9 doesn't guarantee that you do have the DST patch.

One way to be reasonably certain that the DST patch is installed on your OS 10.3 Mac is to manually run the Apple Updater and install all the updates it finds.  If your computer needs the DST patch, it will be included in the files the Updater finds.

Procedure:

  1. Choose Software Update from the Apple menu.

  2. In the Software Update window, select the items you want to install, then click install.

  3. Enter an administrator account name and password.

  4. After the update is complete, restart the computer if required.

  5. Repeat these steps to see if more updates are now available.  Because some software updates are prerequisites for others, you may need to repeat these steps several times to complete the software update sequence.
