New Graduate Program for 21st-Century Teachers

In order to assist practicing teachers in meeting the challenges and opportunities of the rapidly changing world of education, the Department of Curriculum and Instruction is now offering a totally new and innovative master's degree program for the 21st-Century teacher. The Edward Houston Wills Master's Degree is designed to be strongly integrated into the real world of the professional teacher. Many of the courses are offered using a blended approach that allows for some face-to-face class meetings but emphasizes a significant online component that encourages teachers to participate in assignments from their schools. To further integrate with the world of practice, the program culminates in a comprehensive action-research project designed and ultimately implemented by the teacher within his or her own classroom or school.

The Edward Houston Wills Master's Degree also offers progressive and practical core courses such as Power, Politics, and Change; Reaching Every Learner; and Innovative Instructional Design and a choice of four areas of emphasis: (a) Instructional Technology, (b) ELL/Special Education, (c) Leadership, and (d) Literacy.
