MONTEVALLO
CONNECTION
Community, Commitment, and Collaboration
for Educational Excellence
Welcome
In the
spring of 2007 the University of Montevallo’s Department of
Curriculum and Instruction formed the Montevallo Connection. This
group is now administered under the College of Education and is
fully endorsed by the University of Montevallo's 2008 strategic
plan. The
impetus for this group was the Montevallo Educational Compact
established in the 1980’s as a joint commitment among the local
schools, the city of Montevallo, and the university. This compact
was renewed at a signing in May of 2008. Building upon
the foundation of the original compact, the purpose of the
Montevallo Connection is to re-energize and further strengthen the
partnership between the University of Montevallo faculty and the
faculty in the Montevallo schools. We are committed to identifying
the needs at the university that can be met by Montevallo schools
and the needs at Montevallo schools that can be met by the
university. More specifically, the Montevallo Connection is
dedicated to cultural, educational, and professional exchanges that
will enhance the educational experiences of both students in the
Montevallo public schools and those at the University of Montevallo.
Montevallo Educational Compact
May 7,
2008
Originally decreed on January 19, 1984
Being persuaded that public elementary,
middle, high school and University education in Montevallo is whole cloth, the integrity
of the fabric being dependent upon the quality of its constituent threads; and,
Being further persuaded that the
economic, as well as the social and cultural, development of Montevallo is dependent upon the quality of public education
in the City; and,
Being convinced that, despite a
history of close relations, the three public schools, the
American Village, and the University of Montevallo can
cooperate even more with renewal of the 1984 Educational
Compact to the end of strengthening the whole cloth of
public education in the City of Montevallo,
The below
named educational and community leaders of Montevallo do hereby
formally declare and determine it to be their purpose
henceforth to cooperate more closely together, beginning with
the determination of the special needs of the three public
schools and a plan to meet same, and determination of ways
the University can be of greater assistance
to the schools.
Signed by:
Dr. Philip Williams, President, University
of Montevallo Mr. John Wright, Deputy Superintendent, Shelby County
Schools Dr. Anna McEwan, Dean, University of Montevallo Honorable Sharon Anderson, Mayor, City of Montevallo Dr. Annie McClain, Principal, Montevallo Elementary School
