Instructional Leadership

The University of Montevallo offers two degrees in Instructional Leadership. Students may participate in programs leading to  a Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership leading to Class A certification or an Educational Specialist Degree leading to Class AA certification. Each of these programs has been approved by the State Board of Education.

Program Vision: To become a model of excellence for preparation of highly-qualified instructional leaders who will have a positive impact on teaching and learning in Alabama schools.

Program Purpose: To develop exemplary instructional leaders who possess the knowledge, skills, and dispositions to facilitate school improvement.

Priorities of our degree programs include:

To provide “real-life” activities that allow students to apply theory and content knowledge, and to assess and reflect on their interactions.

To make the student’s knowledge accessible for use in performing as a school leader.

To provide a service to the area schools.

To assess the intern’s ability to perform effectively the responsibilities associated with school leadership.
