Requirements for Instructional Leadership
Programs
Master of Education Program
Graduate School Criteria:
Students must hold a valid Class B
Certificate in a teaching field. Students must
have earned a satisfactory score in either the
MAT (388) or the GRE (850 verbal +
quantitative). The MAT or GRE must have been
taken in the last 5 years. Students can make
formal application to the Graduate School by

Program Criteria: In addition,
students must have demonstrated leadership
activities in their schools and prepare an
admission portfolio that is reviewed by program
faculty and our public school partners. An
admissions interview is also used to determine
student readiness for the program. Contact Dr.

Educational Specialist Program
In addition to an earned
baccalaureate-level Professional Educator
Certificate in a teaching field or earned
master’s-level Professional Educator Certificate
in a teaching field or instructional support
area, the applicant shall:
Have a minimum of three (3) years of successful
teaching experience.
Submit an admission portfolio before an
interview. The portfolio will
contain the
following:
Three (3) letters of recommendation to include
the applicant's principal
or
supervisor. Each local superintendent will
establish requirements for recommendations from
the principal and/or supervisor.
Completed copy (all forms) of the most recent
performance appraisal to include the
professional
development component, if
available.
Evidence of ability to improve student
achievement.
Evidence of leadership and management potential,
including evidence of most recent
accomplishments in the area of educational
leadership.
Summary of the candidate’s reasons for pursuing
instructional leadership certification.
Summary of what the candidate expects from the
preparation program.
Pass an interview conducted by a program
admission committee that includes both P-12
instructional leaders and higher education
faculty.
