Instructional Leadership

The University of Montevallo offers three programs in Instructional Leadership. Students may participate in programs leading to Class A Certification, a Master’s Degree in Instructional Leadership, or an Educational Specialist Degree. Each of these programs has been approved by the State Board of Education. The Instructional Leadership program is based on the concept of the teacher/administrator as a developing professional. The faculty understands the importance of decision making as a major component in professionalism; therefore, the courses provide opportunities for administration students to understand and develop the ability to integrate knowledge of self and learners, knowledge of subject matter, and knowledge of curriculum and instruction in order to make decisions. Coursework is offered to provide students with a well-rounded background in all aspects of instructional leadership. Priorities are established to provide students with a solid background in all aspects of school operation including knowledge of national and Alabama school law, finance, and regulations; knowledge of personnel management and staff development; knowledge of curriculum and instructional supervision; and the ability to integrate research and current trends into practice.
