Counseling Program
The counseling program at the University of
Montevallo offers three different tracks:
clinical mental health, marriage and family, and
school counseling. All tracks in
our Counseling Program are CACREP accredited.
The clinical mental
health counseling track is designed to prepare
counselors to work in such settings as mental
health centers, substance abuse treatment
programs, hospitals, agencies, and higher
education settings.
The coordinator of the community/clinical mental health counseling
track is Dr. Stephanie Puleo at
puleos@montevallo.edu
The marriage and family track provides
students with a solid foundation in family
systems theory, systems counseling techniques,
and current societal trends, thereby preparing
students for work with individuals, couples, and
families. This track is a Counsel for
Accreditation of Counseling and Related
Educational Programs (CACREP) approved program. The coordinator of the marriage and
family is Dr. Stephanie Puleo at
puleos@montevallo.edu
The school counseling track is designed to
prepare school counselors at the elementary and
secondary levels. This program track has been
approved by the state board of education for
Alabama Class A Certificate in Counseling and
Guidance. This track is a CACREP approved
program. The coordinator of the school
counseling is Dr. Charlotte Daughhetee at
daughc@montevallo.edu
Successful completion of core courses in any
of the three tracks meets academic requirements
for the Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)
credential in Alabama. The marriage and family
track also meets the academic requirements for a
Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT).
