Shaping
Future Leaders and Counselors
Mission:
The primary mission of Counseling and
Leadership is to promote the continuing
professional development of students who
have made a commitment to service in the
areas of counseling, instructional
leadership, and teaching. It is the
responsibility of the Department to prepare
professionals for the schools and other
social agencies and to maintain programs of
high quality for their preparation. All
courses are designed to assist students in
acquiring the skills, knowledge, and
experience to make informed decisions about
teaching, learning, and human development.
Instructional
Leadership: The
Instructional Leadership Program offers two
degrees. Students may participate in a
Master's degree program leading to Class A
certification or an Educational Specialist
program leading to Class AA certification.
Both programs have been approved by the
Alabama State Board of Education.
Counseling Program: The Counseling
Program consists of three different tracks.
Students may participate in the Clinical
Mental Health Counseling track, School
Counseling track, or the Marriage and Family
Counseling track.
All Counseling program tracks are CACREP
accredited.
Teacher Leader Program: Teacher
Leadership is exclusively for certified
teachers who seek advanced certification
(Class AA) and the educational specialist
degree.
