Department Activities

At Montevallo, we believe that learning is not confined solely to the classroom and therefore the students should not be confined to the classroom.  The faculty enjoy interacting with students in more social environments such as our annual Fall and Spring cook-outs and our Christmas party.  This gives students a chance to get to know their professors and classmates on a more personal level.  The department also provides learning excursions for students.  Each year a group of students is taken to the Marine Science Lab at Dauphin Island, AL.  Students have also visited the NASA program in Huntsville, AL.  In both of these settings, the students have become aware of how applicable biology and chemistry degrees are outside a university setting.   Our goal as a department is to produce the best students possible, but in a way that is enjoyable during the time they are at UM.
