Alabama's Public Liberal Arts University

College of Arts and Sciences

Arts and Sciences offers a wide variety of undergraduate majors and several graduate programs.

Our Mission

Our Mission is to educate citizens and prepare them for a diverse and changing world.  In addition, we strive to develop in students higher-order thinking skills, a substantial body of knowledge, a commitment to use and appreciate learning, effective communication skills, an awareness of human commonalties and differences, and a concern for the common good.

With departments in the natural sciences, social sciences, and humanities, the College of Arts and Sciences offers major and minor programs of study for students seeking a liberal education, whether for personal development or as a foundation for specialized professional study.

The College provides much of the General Education curriculum for students in all divisions of the University.  In addition, the College offers graduate programs and professional training in some disciplines.

The Dean's office coordinates all general studies advising and works closely with these students to facilitate the choice of a major.
