Overview
The Program
The University of
Montevallo Mentoring Program seeks to foster meaningful and
productive one-on-one relationships between students and
professional mentors.
The program is the
result of a loyal network of alumni and professionals
willing to volunteer their time to motivated students
eager to prepare themselves for success. For both, it is
a true enriching
experience.
The Process
Once participants have
reviewed the program, completed their work with Career
Counselor, Angie Kelly, and decided they are able to
commit to active participation, they may begin the
online application. Application information is
thoughtfully reviewed by the Career Development Center
and participants are matched based on commonalities in
their personal and professional interest, whether that
may be a particular job and or academic program.
Once a match is made, a
notification e-mail is sent to the pair introducing
mentor and mentee and providing additional basic
information. The student is asked to make first
contact with the mentor.
The mentoring
commitment is flexible; pairs agree upon manner (i.e.,
in-person meetings, email Q&A, phone Q&A, job shadowing,
internship assistance and or Skype) and frequency of
communication (i.e., weekly, monthly) that suits them
best. The time commitment will be very reasonable
and this program will be what you choose to make of it.
In addition to their
individual interactions, mentors and mentees can take
part in a milestone event each semester, such as: a
Mentor and Mentee Mixer, Basketball and Mentor
appreciation dinner, and or reception.
