Program: The Psychology Program at the University of Montevallo offers students excellent preparation in the field of Psychology, equipping them, upon graduation, for entry into graduate school or into a professional career. Psychology majors may also be interested in the Psychology / Social Work Double Major.
Career Opportunities: Career opportunities for graduates of the Psychology Program are interesting and varied. Some graduates have found employment with agencies in mental health, substance abuse, adolescent treatment, nursing homes or senior citizens' programs, and with state and/or federal governments. Other graduates have gone into industrial market research, hospital administration, employee assistance, counseling or law school. Still others have chosen the field of education as the way to use their Psychology training. Teaching Psychology at the high school or college level, pursuing graduate training in school counseling and guidance, or graduate training in School Psychology are rewarding options.
Psychology Curriculum: The undergraduate curriculum is designed to cover the major areas of Psychology. For students interested in attending graduate school in Psychology, there are opportunities to engage in individual research projects with professors.

Psi Chi: The national honorary society, Psi Chi, promotes communication between Psychology students and faculty. Its members also serve as mentors for new psychology majors.
Scholarship: A scholarship has been established in honor of Dr. Katherine Vickery, Professor Emeriti and former chair of the Psychology Department. It is awarded by the Psychology faculty each spring to a senior Psychology major who has shown outstanding academic achievement and potential for excellence in the profession.
Graduate Work: Graduates of the Psychology Program at the University of Montevallo have been accepted into various doctoral programs in Experimental Psychology, Counseling Psychology and Industrial-Organizational Psychology at universities throughout the United States. Students seeking a master's degree have been accepted into Experimental, Clinical, and Industrial-Organizational Psychology programs. Other Psychology graduates have entered master’s degree programs in Social Work, Student Personnel, Counseling, Public Health Administration and Criminal Justice.
