Program

The History Program at Montevallo offers both a major and a minor in History for students. History majors have several options from which to choose. Students may pursue either a B.A. or B.S. degree.  Majors who wish to teach may consider a bachelor's degree in History with a teaching certificate.  This course of study will include additional courses required by the College of Education.  Students also have the option, after obtaining an undergraduate degree in History, to enter the Fifth Year Program in Education, which confers a master's degree.

Students majoring in History must take 36 hours of History courses, including:

    HIST 101, 102, 211, 212, 310, and 491;

    At least two non-American HIST courses numbered 300 and above;

    GEOG 231;

    12 credit hours of HIST 300- to 400-level electives.

HIST 101 and 102 are prerequisites for all upper-level History courses, and HIST 211 and/or 212 are prerequisites for many U.S. History electives.  See course offerings for topics.

History students may be interested in the Pre-Law Minor.
