Motorcycle Safety Program
The BRC is designed primarily for those who have limited or no riding experience, and includes classroom instruction and riding skills exercises. It begins with the basics - controls, starting, turning, shifting and stopping. There is also discussion and practice of more advanced braking, cornering and swerving.
Professionally trained RiderCoaches teach in the classroom and coach riders in a special closed, controlled riding area. Since the course involves riding skill development, applicants must be able to ride a bicycle. If you have not ridden a bicycle in a long time, it would help to do so prior to the start of the BRC, to assist with balance and hand-eye coordination. The BRC is conducted at a pace that results in successful completion for most novice riders.
We provide the motorcycle, handbook, and helmet for the course. You may bring your own helmet, if you prefer (must be DOT approved). You must have in your possession a valid driver license. If you are 14 or 15 years of age you must have a motor-driven cycle license. For riding, you will need long sleeves and pants, full-fingered gloves, eye protection, boots or shoes that cover the ankles, with low heels (1" or less), and rain gear if the weather is threatening.
You must be at least 14 years of age to enroll.
If you are under 18, a parent or legal
guardian must sign the required waiver form prior to the course. In order to pass, you
must attend all classroom and riding sessions, and pass knowledge and skill tests.
By taking this course you may be eligible for an insurance discount. Please check with
your insurance company to verify.
