TWO LADY FALCONS NAMED ALL-GULF SOUTH CONFERENCE -- BELL NAMED TO FIRST TEAM -- GIBSON NAMED TO SECOND TEAM

 
BIRMINGHAM (4/18) -- Two members of the University of Montevallo women's golf team have been named to the first-ever selection based Women's Golf All-Gulf South Conference Team, it has been announced.

Senior Morgan Bell is one of five student-athletes named to the First Team All-Gulf South Conference. The Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island native earned medalist honors at the recent Natural State Golf Classic in Heber Springs, Ark. this past week.  She is currently ranked 52nd in the nation in stroke average (Golfstat).

Freshman Emily Gibson was one of four student-athletes named to the Second Team All-Gulf South Conference. The Toronto, Ontario native is also ranked nationally in stroke average (89th) and finished tied for second at the University of West Georgia Invitational in Villa Rica, Ga. earlier this spring.

The two are the first Lady Falcons to be named to an All-GSC team.

Also named to the GSC First Team were Ana Morales of Arkansas Tech, Jenna Chadwick of Henderson State along with Bhvana Shetty and Natalie Espinosa from West Florida. Joining Gibson on the Second Team are Meredith Mosel from Henderson State, along with Sarah Ross and Regan Freville from West Georgia.

UM will compete in Hot Springs, Ark. at the 2008 Gulf South Conference Women's Golf Championships beginning Sunday. Nine teams will compete in a two-day 36-hole tournament to determine the Gulf South Conference champion. The tournament is scheduled to begin Sunday (18 holes) and will conclude Monday.

HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. (4/15) -- For the second time this spring, the University of Montevallo women's golf team claimed a team tournament championship, as UM won the Natural State Golf Classic, hosted by Harding University and played at the Red Apple Country Club in Heber Springs, Ark.

UM also won the team championship at the University of West Georgia Invitational, in Villa Rica, Ga. earlier this spring.

UM posted a two-round team score of 645 to lead the nine-team field. Henderson State (678) placed second overall, while Arkansas Tech (679) placed third.

Senior Morgan Bell earned medalist honors, recording a two-round score of 158 (77-78). Freshmen Heather Mutton (80-82) and Britney Martin (83-79) finished tied for second with a score of 162. Other UM finishers included Emily Gibson (T-8th, 165) and Rachel Shaner (10th, 167). All five Lady Falcons placed in the Top 10.

UM will next compete at the 2008 Gulf South Conference Women's Golf Championships in Hot Springs, Ark. April 20 and 21.

BELL AND GIBSON REMAIN RANKED IN TOP TEN IN GSC

 
MONTEVALLO (4/9) -- The University of Montevallo women's golf team is ranked at No. 26 in the latest Golfstat/NCAA Division II poll (head-to-head rankings), it has been announced.

Individually, Morgan Bell and Emily Gibson remain ranked in the Top Ten among GSC golfers. Bell is 2nd, while Gibson is 4th. Bell is 52nd nationally in stroke average, while Gibson is 84th nationally.

UM competes at a tournament hosted by Harding University Monday and Tuesday in Searcy, Ark.

LADY FALCONS WIN WEST GEORGIA INVITATIONAL
MARTIN AND MUTTON FINISH TIED FOR SECOND OVERALL

 
VILLA RICA, Ga. (3/25) -- The University of Montevallo won the team championship at the University of West Georgia Invitational, played at the Mirror Lake Golf Club in Villa Rica, Ga.

UM posted a two-round team score of 709. Harding University was second (745) while Arkansas Tech (765) was third overall in the five-team field. Lindenwood University (766) and tournament host West Georgia (770) rounded out the field.

Indvidually, Sarah Ross of West Georgia earned medalist honors, carding a two-round score of 172. Freshmen Britney Martin and Heather Mutton finished tied for second, with a score of 176. Morgan Bell was fourth overall (178). Emily Gibson also finished in the top 10, placing sixth overall with a score of 180. Rachel Shaner just missed the Top 10, placing 11th with a score of 187.

UM will have a break and will return to action on April 14 and 15, to compete in a tournament hosted by Harding University.

MONTEVALLO (3/21) -- The University of Montevallo women's golf team is ranked at No. 27 in the latest Golfstat/NCAA Division II poll (head-to-head rankings), it has been announced.

It is the first time in school history that the Lady Falcons have placed in the Top 30. Among Gulf South Conference schools, only the University of West Florida (12th) is ranked ahead of UM.

Individually, Morgan Bell and Emily Gibson are ranked in the Top Ten among GSC golfers. Bell is 2nd, while Gibson is 4th. Bell is ranked 54th nationally in stroke average, while Gibson is 88th nationally.

UM returns to action in a meet hosted by the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Ga. on Monday and Tuesday.

LADY FALCONS POST SCHOOL-RECORD ROUND TO FINISH SECOND AS TEAM AT BUFFALO WILD WINGS INVITATIONAL -- BELL AND GIBSON FINISH IN TOP FIVE

 
CALERA (3/11) -- The University of Montevallo shot a school-record 306 in the second round, en route to a second place team finish at the Buffalo Wild Wings Invitational, at Timberline Golf Club.

Birmingham Southern College won the team competition, posting a two-round score of 627. UM was next at 637, while the University of Mobile (651) finished third. Lenoir-Rhyne College and Henderson State tied for fourth place (691), while West Georgia (719) finished sixth. Harding (727), McKendree (824) and Christian Brothers (844) rounded out the field.

Individually, Jordan Hardy of Birmingham Southern earned medalist honors, recording a two-round score of 147 (72-75). Teammate Kelly Burgess was second (154). Morgan Bell was the top finisher for UM, placing third with a score of 155 (79-76). Emily Gibson tied for fourth place (158). Other UM scores included Britney Martin (165), Heather Mutton (165), Rachel Shaner (167) and CeCe Conner (186).

UM returns to action on March 24 and 25, as they compete in a tournament hosted by the University of West Georgia in Carrollton, Ga. 

LADY FALCONS FINISH NINTH AS TEAM AT ANN RHOADS/BSC SHOOTOUT

 
CALERA (2/25) -- The University of Montevallo women's golf team finished ninth as a team (15 teams) at the Ann Rhoads/Birmingham Southern Shootout, at Timberline Golf Club.

Samford University won the team competition, posting a two-round score of 635. Murray State University finished second (644), while Tennessee Tech and Birmingham Southern finished tied for third with a score of 648. UM posted a two-round team score of 661.

Individually, Daniela Vargas of Shorter College earned medalist honors, recording a two-round score of 148 (76-72). Morgan Bell is the top finisher for UM, earning a Top 10 finish and finishing eighth overall with a two-round score of 157. Other UM scores include Emily Gibson (Tied -11th, 159); Rachel Shaner (Tied 52nd, 172); Heather Mutton and Britney Martin (Tied 59th, 175).

UM returns to action on March 9 and 10, as they host the Buffalo Wild Wings Invitational, at Timberline GC in Calera.

LADY FALCONS TO COMPETE IN FIVE SPRING TOURNAMENTS

 
MONTEVALLO (12/12) -- The University of Montevallo women's golf team will be participating in five events this spring.

UM will begin the spring season at a tournament hosted by Birmingham Southern College on February 25-26. The course will be familiar, as the tournament will be held at Timberline Golf Club in Calera.

The Lady Falcons  will return to Timberline GC on March 10 and 11, as they will host the second annual Buffalo Wild Wings Invitational.

Next on the schedule will be a tournament March 24 and 25 in Carrollton, Ga., hosted by the University of West Georgia.

UM will next make the first of two trips out to Arkansas, as they participate in a tournament hosted by Harding University in Heber Springs, Ark. April 14 and 15.

The Lady Falcons are scheduled to conclude the regular season April 18-22 at the 2008 Gulf South Conference Women's Golf Championships, in Hot Springs, Ark.

LADY FALCONS CONCLUDE FALL SEASON AT TROY UNIVERSITY WOMEN'S INVITATIONAL

 
MONTGOMERY (10/30) -- The University of Montevallo women's golf team concluded competition for the fall season as they competed in the Troy University Women's Invitational, held at the Arrowhead Country Club in Montgomery this week.

As a team, UM finished 16th out of 18 teams. Most of the teams in the field were NCAA Division I teams. Jacksonville State University won the team competition, posting a two-round team score of 611. Nicholls State (616) was second, while Belmont University (619) was third. UM posted a two-round team score of 655.

Individually, Heather Mutton posted the best individual score, recording a score of 159 (79-80) to finish tied for 36th place. Other UM scores included Morgan Bell (T-41st, 160), Emily Gibson (T-73rd, 169), Rachel Shaner (82nd, 174) and Britney Martin (83rd, 175).

UM has concluded competition for the fall season.

BELL WINS ONE-HOLE PLAYOFF TO EARN MEDALIST HONORS
MONTEVALLO FINISHES THIRD AT LENOIR-RHYNE/MYRTLE BEACH INTERCOLLEGIATE

 
LITTLE RIVER, S.C. (10/9) -- Morgan Bell won a one-hole playoff to earn medalist honors at the Lenoir-Rhyne/Myrtle Beach Intercollegiate, hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne College at the River Hills Golf Club in Little River, S.C. on Tuesday.

The Charlottetown, Price Edward Island native defeated Katie Clayton of Limestone College in a one-hole playoff. Bell posted a two-round score of 148 (75-73).

As a team, the Lady Falcons placed third overall. They defeated several NCAA Division II teams, including a team ranked in the Top 25 in the latest NCAA Division II/Golfstat poll. Belmont Abbey came into the tournament ranked No. 10.

Berry College (GA) won the team competition, posted a two-round score of 639. Pfeiffer University was second 643. After UM, Tusculum College (650) and Belmont Abbey (652) were next.

Other UM scorers included Emily Gibson (28th, 165), Britney Martin (T-29th, 166), Rachel Shaner (T-39th, 169) and Heather Mutton (62nd, 179).

UM concludes the fall season at a tournament in Montgomery, hosted by Troy University, Oct. 28-30. 

LADY FALCONS FINISH TIED FOR 11TH IN RAIN-SHORTENED FLAGLER COLLEGE FALL SLAM

 
ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (10/2) -- The University of Montevallo women's golf team placed tied for 11th place as a team (20 teams) at the Flagler Fall Slam, hosted by the Flagler College, at World Golf Village in St. Augustine, Fla. this week.

After concluding the first round on Monday, heavy rains moved through the area, making the course unplayable and shortened the event to the one round.

Nova Southeastern University won the team competition, posting a team score of 319. Daytona Beach Community College and Lynn University tied for second place (321), while Jackson State University w(325) finished fourth. UM posted a team score of 352.

Emily Gibson posted the top score for UM, placing tied for 12th with a round of 81. Maha Haddioui of Lynn University carded the low score, with a round of 71.

UM next competes at a tournament hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne College in Myrtle Beach, S.C. Oct. 7-9. 
 

LADY FALCONS FINISH TIED FOR SECOND AT BUBBA WATSON INVITATIONAL -- GIBSON AND BELL PLACE IN TOP 10

 
PACE, Fla. (9/18) -- The University of Montevallo women's golf team placed tied for second as a team (nine teams) at the Bubba Watson Invitational, hosted by the University of West Florida, at the Stonebrook Golf Course in Pace, Fla.

Tournament host UWF won the team competition, posting a two-round team score of 660. UM tied with Henderson State University, recording a team score of 668 (339-329), to finish 10 strokes ahead of fourth place Saint Leo University (678) and 11 strokes ahead of fifth place University of Mobile (679). UM defeated three GSC schools in the nine-team field, Arkansas Tech, Harding and West Georgia.

Individually, Emily Gibson and Morgan Bell finished the tournament in the Top 10. Gibson finished sixth overall (160) while Bell finished tied for seventh (162). Other UM finishers included Brittany Martin (T-15th, 169); Heather Mutton (28th, 179) and Rachel Shaner (29th, 180).

Bhavna Shetty of UWF won individual medalist honors, carding a score of 153 (77-76).

UM next competes at a tournament hosted by Flagler College in St. Augustine, Fla. Sept. 30-Oct. 2.

MONTEVALLO TO PLAY IN FOUR EVENTS THIS FALL

 
MONTEVALLO (7/18) -- The University of Montevallo women's golf team will be participating in four events this fall.

UM travels to Pensacola, Fla., to compete in a tournament hosted by the University of West Florida, on Sept. 16-18.

Next, will be the Flagler College Fall Slam in St. Augustine, Fla., from Sept. 30 - Oct. 2.

The Lady Falcons then travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to compete in a tournament hosted by Lenoir-Rhyne College, Oct. 7-9.

UM concludes the fall season in a tournament hosted by Troy State University Oct. 28-30.


LADY FALCONS SIGN TWO FOR 2007-08
 

MONTEVALLO (4/30) – The University of Montevallo women’s golf program has signed two student-athletes for the 2007-08 school year.

Heather Mutton, a native of Dunstable, England and Emily Gibson, from Toronto, Ontario have signed letters of intent to compete for the Lady Falcons, beginning in Fall 2007.

Mutton was a two-time Club Champion at the Redburn Invitational and Leighton Buzzard Invitational Tournaments. She was also Redburn Open Champion at Bedfordshire Schools and Runner-up in the County Southeast Regional Tournament.  Mutton established a course record of 3-under par at the Leighton Buzzard course. She also owns a 1-under par (71) at South Beds course. She also qualified to play in the English Girls Championship.

Gibson placed 10th overall at the Ontario Junior Girls Championship, sixth overall at the Ontario Junior Masters, and 13th overall at the Ontario Champion of Champions tournament. She competed at the Scarboro District Championships where she placed 1st overall (low net and low gross score) this year and 1st (low net) in 2006. She has won the Junior Club championship for the past seven years. She is also two-time defending Ladies Club Champion while adding the Mixed Match Play title in 2005.

“The addition of these two girls, along with fall signee Britney Martin will completely change the women’s golf program at the University of Montevallo.” head coach Jeff Palmer said. “These new girls will help us turn our program into a contender in the conference and region.”
