Fourth year as Head Coach - WBB

The Lady Falcons road to the 2006-07 postseason experienced a few bumps along the way, but in the end, the University of Montevallo qualified for their second Gulf South Conference Tournament in a three year span. UM concluded the 2006-07 season with a record of 14-14 overall.

Roy Dixon will return for his seventh year at the University of Montevallo and his fourth season as head coach for the Lady Falcon basketball program. Two seniors, including a four-year senior who was named Gulf South Conference East Division Freshman of the Year will lead a group of talented newcomers to the floor for 2007-08.  The revamped Lady Falcon roster will look for a return visit to the post season in March.

A native of Montgomery, Dixon previously spent three seasons as primary assistant coach for the UM men’s basketball program from 2001-04. He helped guide the Falcons to the biggest one-season turnaround in school history, going from four to 23 wins, and a berth in the championship game of the NCAA Division II South Regional Tournament. In his time as an assistant coach at UM, the Falcons won the 2004 Gulf South Conference championship, the first GSC title for men’s basketball and the second GSC title in school history. The Falcons also qualified for the GSC Tournament in 2002.

A former player under UM Hall of Fame member Rob Spivery, Dixon was a graduate assistant for Spivery for the 1990-91 season and a portion of the 1991-92 season. After graduating from the University of Montevallo in 1990, Dixon spent nine years in the mental health field, working as a guidance counselor in the Birmingham area.

As a player, Dixon was an All-State, All-Conference and team defensive MVP at Chattahoochee Community College. He averaged 17 points and 11 rebounds per game in two seasons at CVCC, before enrolling at UM. Dixon was also an All-City selection, team captain and team defensive MVP at Sidney Lanier High School in Montgomery, where he averaged 15 points and nine rebounds per game.

Dixon with his wife Iris, resides in Alabaster with their two children, eight-year old Roy III and five-year old Felicia Gabriell.
