Falcons fall to No. 2 Delta State in GSC Tournament Championship game -- four named to All Tournament Team

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (5/7) -- For the second consecutive night, a ninth inning rally came up short as the University of Montevallo came up short, this time a 7-5 decision to No. 2 Delta State University in the championship game of the 2008 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championships at USA Stadium in Millington, Tenn. on Wednesday.

After the tournament, Eric Moore, Ryan Norman, Brantly Clay and Nate Russ were named to the GSC Baseball All-Tournament Team.    more

UM concludes the 2008 season with a record of 36-25 overall. 

 

Montevallo to play for Gulf South Conference Championship on Wednesday despite loss to No. 7 Southern Arkansas

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (5/6) -- A ninth inning rally came up short as UM dropped a 3-1 decision to No. 7 Southern Arkansas in Millington, Tenn. Despite the loss, UM still advances to the championship game of the tournament by virtue of remaining undefeated through their first three games. The Falcons received a "bye" towards the championship game and will meet Delta State University for the Gulf South Conference Championship, Wednesday afternoon at 4:30 p.m.

Falcons remain undefeated in winners bracket -- Montevallo defeats No. 2 Delta State 

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (5/5) -- The Falcons pushed across four runs in the fourth and fifth innings en route to an 11-2 victory over No. 2 Delta State in the third round of the 2008 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championships on Monday. UM collected 16 hits, five by Jeremy Jones (5-for-5) who becomes the latest Falcon to tie a single-game record for base hits. Daniel Furuto also went 5-for-5 against Georgia Southwestern earlier this season. Nate Russ went the final 5 2/3 innings, did not allow a run, allowed four hits, walked two and struck out one batter to earn his fourth victory of the season.

Montevallo defeats No. 11 Valdosta State in extra innings

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (5/4) -- Ryan Norman delivered an RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to lift the UM to a 6-5 victory over No. 11 Valdosta State in the second round of the 2008 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championships. UM collected 13 hits, three by Brantly Clay. Zach Andrews went the final 1 1/3 innings to earn his sixth victory of the season.

Falcons defeat No. 7 Southern Arkansas in opening round of GSC Tournament

MILLINGTON, Tenn. (5/3) -- A five-run fifth inning and key two-out base hits propelled UM to a 12-3 victory over No. 7 Southern Arkansas in the opening round of the 2008 Gulf South Conference Baseball Championships.  UM collected 15 hits, three each by Eric Moore and Brantly Clay. Moore along with B.J. Holloway drove in three RBI each. Zac Blakney went the first 4 1/3 innings, allowed three runs and struck out five. Nate Russ went the rest of the way (4 2/3 innings), did not allow a run, walked one and struck out five to earn his third victory of the season.
