Daniel Furuto
returns for his fourth and final season of competition with the
Falcons. Furuto is his fifth year with the Falcon baseball
program, spending the 2004 season as a redshirt. He is one of
three Falcon four-year seniors. After three years in the
outfield, he will be expected to compete for playing time in the
infield. Last season, Daniel missed a portion of the season to
injury and appeared in 36 games, starting in 30 games. He batted
.343 for the season with five home runs and 27 RBI. He had nine
multiple-hit games, seven multiple-RBI games, and managed to
collect a six-game hitting streak. He went 3-for-4 with a run
scored and two RBI against Arkansas-Monticello. He was named to
the GSC Honor Roll for the third time. As a sophomore, Furuto
appeared in 57 games, starting in 54 games and was fourth on the
team in batting, hitting .345 with seven home runs and 48 RBI.
He was third on the team in base hits (69) and RBI (48). He
collected 22 multi-hit games and posted a 10-game hitting
streak. He went 8-for-16 (.500) at the Regional Tournament and
was named the Tournament Most Outstanding Player. Daniel was
also named to the Second Team All-Gulf South Conference. As a
freshman, Daniel appeared in 53 games and started in 33 games,
with four home runs and 28 RBI. He was also 9-of-11 in stolen
bases. He had eight multi-hit games, went 3-for-4 with a double,
home run, and two RBI against West Georgia, had a home run and
three RBI against Tuskegee and three hits with two RBI against
Lincoln Memorial .
Furuto competed for coach Erik Metzger at Briarwood Christian
School, where he was named Honorable Mention All-State,
Honorable Mention All-Metro team MVP, and recipient of the Male
Sportsmanship Award in the spring of 2003. He also received the
President’s award for Academic Excellence.
A math major at UM, he is the son of Don and Bonnie Furuto.
