Monika Tortorici
will also return for her third season of competition with the Lady Falcons. The awards continue to roll in for the Birmingham native. Monika was named to the All-Tournament Team in the University of West Florida Regional Crossover and Christian Brothers Tournaments. She was also named Gulf South Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the second time in her career. Monika led the team in service aces, along with service aces per game and tied a single-match record of 13 aces against Miles. She was  second on the team in kills per game, blocks, and blocks per game. Monika joined her sister Lauren on the GSC All-Academic Team and GSC Honor Roll. As a freshman, she had a team-high 453 kills, averaging of 3.21 kills per game, along with a team-high hitting percentage of .252. Defensively, Monika led the team in total blocks, averaging of 1.15 blocks per game. For her efforts, she was named  2005 Gulf South Conference (East) Freshman of the Year and a Second Team All-GSC selection.

Monika was a 6A First team All-State selection, AVCA 6A First team All-State, Most Valuable Offensive Player, All-County and All-Metro selection at Oak Mountain High School.  She also competed for Magic City Thunder Volleyball Club. Her team was the 2005 South Region champs and USA Junior Olympic Volleyball championship participants in Salt Lake City, Utah.  While at Oak Mountain, Monika was involved with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and was a member of the Key Club and the National Honor Society. Monika also participates in Campus Outreach, Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Alpha Lambda Delta and Sigma Alpha Pi leadership honorary. An Education major at UM, Monika is the daughter of Kristina and Marc Tortorici.
