Four Tough Opponents Ruin Falcons Trip to Valdosta State
VALDOSTA, Ga. – The University of Montevallo volleyball team (10-9) fell to two more tough Sunshine State Conference opponents today (Sept. 27) at the Valdosta State Crossover. The Falcons fought in both matches but were unable to overcome Rollins College and Lynn University. RC won 3-0 (25-23, 26-24, 25-18) while Lynn came up victorious 3-1 (25-23, 25-18, 19-25, 25-12).
Freshman Anna Garrison (LaVergne, Tennessee) registered double-doubles in both games from her setter position.
The Falcons pushed Rollins top the limit in the first two sets including taking set two to extra points. They got strong performances from Garrison, junior Katy Handrick (DePere, Wisconsin), senior Monika Tortorici (Birmingham, Alabama), senior Lauren Tortorici (Birmingham, Alabama), junior Carson Anderson (Chattanooga, Tennessee), junior Joy Peschman (Tempe, Arizona) and sophomore Kara Zawisza (Ann Arbor, Michigan).
Garrison had 18 assists and 12 digs in the match while Handrick registered 11 kills. M. Tortorici chipped in nine kills while L. Tortorici and Anderson had eight each. L. Tortorici also had 12 digs.
Peschman helped out in the setting as she picked up 16 assists. Libero Zawisza had 10 digs.
In match two Garrison again had a double-double with 17 assists and 17 digs. Handrick and M. Tortorici each had 11 kills while L. Tortorici had eight.
L. Tortorici also had 15 digs while Zawisza led the team with 22. Peschman again split time with Garrison picking up 18 assists.
The Falcons return to action September 30 at 7 p.m. as they travel to Alabama-Huntsville for their fourth Gulf South Conference East Division match.
