MONTEVALLO DEFEATED BY NORTH ALABAMA IN SEASON FINALE


FLORENCE (4/12) -- The University of Montevallo dropped an 8-1 decision to the University of North Alabama, in a Gulf South Conference women's tennis match in Florence on Saturday.

Kelley Vaughn earned a victory for UM, posting a straight-set victory at No. 5 singles.

UM concludes the 2008 season with a record of 0-5 in the GSC and 5-15 overall.

WEST ALABAMA DEFEATS MONTEVALLO IN GSC MATCH


LIVINGSTON (4/8) -- The University of Montevallo dropped an 8-1 decision to the University of West Alabama, in a Gulf South Conference women's tennis match in Livingston on Tuesday.

Rachel Hartley and Kristi Kelly earned the lone victory for UM, posting an 8-4 victory at No. 1 doubles.

Four of the nine matches (No. 3 doubles, No. 1, No. 4 and No. 6 singles) went to third-set tiebreakers.

The loss eliminates UM from post-season consideration.

UM (0-4 GSC, 5-14) will conclude the 2008 season at the University of North Alabama for a Gulf South Conference match Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m.

MONTEVALLO (4/3) -- The University of Montevallo women's tennis team dropped an 8-1 decision to the University of Mobile, in a non-conference match at the Varsity Courts.

Terrylisa Abdool earned a straight-set victory for UM at No. 4 singles.

UM (5-13) travels to the University of West Alabama for a Gulf South Conference match Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m.

MONTEVALLO EARNS IN-REGION VICTORY AT STILLMAN COLLEGE


TUSCALOOSA (3/27) -- The University of Montevallo women's tennis team got back on the winning track, earning an in-region, 8-1 victory against Stillman College, in non-conference action in Tuscaloosa Thursday afternoon.

All six Lady Falcons posted straight-set victories in singles. Rachel Hartley and Kristi Kelly did not drop a game either in singles, nor as teammates in No. 1 doubles.

The host Tigers earned their victory at No. 3 doubles.

The victory snaps a losing skid dating back to March 1.

UM (5-12) will host the University of Mobile for a non-conference match and final home match of the 2008 season Tuesday afternoon at 3 p.m.

TUSKEGEE DEFEATS MONTEVALLO


MONTEVALLO (3/25) -- The University of Montevallo women's tennis team battled won two of three matches in doubles, however ended up on the short end of a 5-4 decision to Tuskegee University, in non-conference action at the Varsity Courts on Tuesday.

Rachel Hartley teamed with Kristi Kelly for a victory at No. 1 doubles, while Shasta Brown teamed with Terrylisa Abdool for a win at No. 3 doubles.

Hartley and Abdool were able to earn straight set victories for UM in singles at No. 1 and No. 5, respectively.

UM (4-12) travels to Stillman College for a non-conference and in-region match Thursday afternoon at 2 p.m.

UM (4-11) will host Tuskegee University for a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m.

SAINT LEO, Fla. (3/18) -- The University of Montevallo women's tennis team lost to Southern Arkansas University, 5-4, in a non-conference match played in Saint Leo, Fla. on Tuesday.

UM was able to win at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles. Rachel Hartley and Kelley Vaughn were able to earn straight-set victories at No. 1 and No. 5 singles, respectively.

UM (4-10) will play Saint Leo University for a non-conference match Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m. (ET).

MOBILE (3/14) -- The University of Montevallo women's tennis team lost to the University of Mobile, 6-3, in a non-conference match in Mobile on Friday.

Kristi Kelly and Terrylisa Abdool were able to pick up straight-set victories at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively.

Hartley and Kristi Kelly teamed for a victory at No. 2 doubles.

UM (4-8) will travel to Spring Hill College for a non-conference match Saturday morning at 9 a.m.

Kristi Kelly and Terrylisa Abdool were able to pick up straight-set victories at No. 3 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Rachel Hartley was able to earn a victory at No. 2 singles in a tiebreaker.

Hartley and Kelly teamed for a victory (tiebreaker) at No. 2 doubles.

UM (4-7) will travel to the University of Mobile for a non-conference match Friday afternoon at 3 p.m.

MONTEVALLO LOSES TO VALDOSTA STATE AND WEST FLORIDA AT GSC EAST JAMBOREE


HUNTSVILLE (3/7) -- The University of Montevallo women's tennis team lost two Gulf South Conference matches at the GSC East Jamboree in Huntsville.

UM lost a 5-0 decision to Valdosta State University, then lost a 5-0 decision to the University of West Florida.

UM (0-3 GSC, 4-6) will host the University of West Alabama for a rescheduled non-conference match Wednesday afternoon at 2 p.m.

HUNTSVILLE (3/6) -- The University of Montevallo dropped a 6-3 decision to the University of Alabama-Huntsville, in a Gulf South Conference women's tennis match in Huntsville on Thursday.

Rachel Hartley and Kelley Vaughn were able to pick up straight set victories at No. 2 and No. 6 singles, respectively. Vaughn along with teammate Terrylisa Abdool was able to earn a victory at No. 3 doubles.

UM (0-1 GSC, 4-4) is next scheduled to compete at the 2008 Gulf South Conference Jamboree, to be played in Huntsville on Friday. UM will meet Valdosta State University at 9 a.m. and University of West Florida at 3 p.m.

MONTEVALLO MATCH WITH WEST ALABAMA CANCELLED


MONTEVALLO (3/4) -- The women's tennis match between the University of Montevallo and University of West Alabama scheduled for Tuesday has been cancelled due to weather.

The match will be rescheduled for a later date to be announced.

UM (4-3) is next scheduled to travel to the University of Alabama-Huntsville for a Gulf South Conference match Thursday afternoon at  2 p.m.
 

MONTEVALLO POSTS IN-REGION VICTORY AT FORT VALLEY STATE -- DROPS MATCH TO UNIVERSITY OF TAMPA


FORT VALLEY, Ga. (3/1) -- The University of Montevallo posted their second consecutive in-region victory with a 9-0 victory at Fort Valley State University, in a non-conference women's tennis match in Fort Valley, Ga. on Saturday.

Later in the afternoon, UM traveled to nearby Tifton, Ga. to face the University of Tampa in a non-conference match. UM earned a couple of victories over the Spartans, however, dropped a 7-2 decision to UT. Rachel Hartley was able to post a victory at No .2 singles, while Kelley Vaughn was able to post a straight-set victory at No. 6 singles

UM is now 4-3 overall. They are next scheduled to host the University of West Alabama for a non-conference match Tuesday afternoon at 2 p.m.

All six Lady Falcons posted straight set victories. Shasta Brown did not drop a game, posting a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles.

UM (3-2) will travel to Fort Valley State University for a non-conference match Saturday morning at 9 a.m. (ET).  Later in the day, the Lady Falcons will travel to Tifton, Ga. to meet the University of Tampa for a non-conference match, scheduled for 3 p.m. (ET).

Shasta Brown collected a straight set victory at No. 1 singles, while Kristi Kelly earned a straight set victory at No. 3 singles. Kelly along with Rachel Hartley teamed for a victory at No. 1 doubles.

UM (2-2) will travel to Albany State University for a non-conference match Friday afternoon at 3 p.m. (ET).

MONTEVALLO (2/23) -- The University of Montevallo tennis team earned a key in-region victory, with a 9-0 decision over Stillman College, in action at the Varsity Courts on Saturday.

Shasta Brown, Rachel Hartley, Kristi Kelly and Terrylisa Abdool did not drop a game, winning in straight sets. Brown competed at No. 1 singles, Hartley was at No. 2, Kelly competed at No. 3 and Abdool was at No. 5 singles.

Hartley along with Kelly also did not drop a game at No. 1 doubles, posting an 8-0 victory. The two were later named Players of the Day.

UM (2-1) will travel to Tuskegee University for a rescheduled non-conference match Wednesday afternoon at 3 p.m.

MONTEVALLO FALLS TO NORTH ALABAMA IN 2008 OPENER -- BROWN AND ABDOOL NAMED TEAM CAPTAINS


MONTEVALLO (2/9) -- The University of Montevallo tennis team dropped a 7-2 decision to the University of North Alabama, in a non-conference match, and opening match of the 2008 season, at the Varsity Tennis Courts on Saturday.

Shasta Brown and Terrylisa Abdool earned victories at No. 1 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Abdool posted a straight-set victory over Kylie Realmuto.

Brown and Abdool have been named team captains for the 2008 season. Brown is in her second and final season with the Lady Falcons, while Abdool competes in her fourth and final season.

UM (1-1) will host Snead State CC and Central Alabama CC for exhibition matches Saturday. UM will play Snead State at 10 a.m. then host CACC at 2:30 p.m.

LADY FALCONS RANKED No. 9 IN SOUTH REGION


MONTEVALLO (12/1) -- The University of Montevallo tennis team received a pre-season ranking of No. 9 in the South Region, it has been announced by the International Tennis Association (ITA) and College Tennis Online.

The top six teams in the South Region are all Gulf South Conference schools. Valdosta State is No. 1, followed by West Florida, Delta State, Harding, North Alabama and Henderson State.

A total of 26 teams comprise the ITA South Region.

UM concluded the 2007 season ranked No. 9 in the South Region.

LADY FALCONS DEFEAT CACC TO END FALL SEASON


MONTEVALLO (10/18) -- The University of Montevallo tennis team earned a 6-3 victory over Central Alabama Community College, in action at Varsity Courts.

Rachel Hartley , Terrylisa Abdool and Audrey Carrio earned straight set victories in singles. Kelly Vaughn won in a third set tiebreaker. UM also earned two victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles.

UM has concluded the fall season.

FALL TENNIS UPDATE


MONTEVALLO (10/16) -- Individual members of the University of Montevallo women's tennis team have experienced success in recent fall tennis tournaments.

In a tournament hosted by the University of North Alabama, Rachel Hartley advanced to the finals of the singles, where she eventually lost to a player from UNA. Hartley teamed with Kristi Kelly and advanced to the finals of the doubles.

At the Central Alabama Invitational, Kelly Vaughn advanced to the championship match of Flight # 2 singles. Dorothy Sherman and Terrylisa Abdool advanced to the championship match of Flight # 2 doubles consolation.

UM will conclude the fall season with a home match against Central Alabama CC Thursday afternoon at 3:30 p.m.
 

LADY FALCONS DEFEAT SPRING HILL COLLEGE IN FALL MATCH


MOBILE (9/28) -- The University of Montevallo women's tennis team posted a 5-4 victory over Spring Hill College, in a fall women's tennis match on Thursday.

The result will count towards the 2007-08 overall standings.

Rachel Hartley, Kristi Kelly, Terrylisa Abdool and Kelly Vaughn earned team points for victories in singles. Hartley and Kelly combined to win a team point in doubles.

With the teams tied at 4-4, Abdool clinched the victory for UM with a 12-10 victory in a third set tiebreak.

UM travels to Pensacola, Fla. to compete in an ITA Regional Tournament, hosted by the University of West Florida this weekend.

LADY FALCONS ANNOUNCE FALL SCHEDULE


MONTEVALLO (9/27) -- The University of Montevallo women's tennis team has announced their 2007 fall schedule.

On Thursday, September 27, UM will travel to Spring Hill College for a match.

UM will then travel to Pensacola, Fla. to compete in an ITA Regional Tournament, hosted by the University of West Florida.

UM will next compete in a tournament in Florence, hosted by the University of North Alabama on October 6 and 7.

The tournament play continues on Oct. 12 and 13, as the Lady Falcons compete in a tournament hosted by Central Alabama Community College.

UM will conclude the fall schedule with a home match against CACC on October 18 at the Varsity Courts, beginning at 3:30 p.m.

HARTLEY SIGNS WITH LADY FALCONS


MONTEVALLO (5/10) -- Rachel Hartley has signed a national letter of intent to play women’s tennis at the University of Montevallo, it has been announced.

Hartley is among the top ranked junior players in the state of Alabama. The Mobile native is ranked No. 3 in the USTA Alabama rankings and is considered one of the top players in the South Region.

She will soon graduate from the Arnold School and has trained at the prestigious Smith Stearns Tennis Academy in Hilton Head, South Carolina.

“We have high hopes and expectations for Rachel,” head coach Steve Faulkner said. “She will make an immediate impact for our team.”
