HOT SPRINGS, Ark. (4/21) -- The University of Montevallo women's golf team
placed second overall (nine teams) at the 2008 Gulf South Conference Women's Golf
Championships, played at the Hot Springs Country Club in Hot Springs, Ark.
Senior Morgan Bell and freshman Emily Gibson both finished in the
top six, to be named to the GSC All-Tournament Team. Bell finished fifth overall, posting a two-round score of
157 (80-77), while Gibson placed sixth, with a two-round score of 159 (82-77).
Two-time defending champion University of West Florida won the team
championship, recording a two-round score of 624 (315-309). UM (330-320-650)
defeated third place Henderson State
University by one stroke (326-325-651). Harding University (336-333-669) was
fourth, while Arkansas Tech (352-330-682) was fifth. West
Georgia, Christian Brothers, Southern Arkansas and Arkansas-Monticello rounded
out the field.
Natalia Espinosa of West Florida earned medalist honors, with a two-round score
of 152 (74-78). Jenna Chadwick of Henderson State was second (154), with Meaghan
Gulliksen and Bhavna Shetty of West Florida tied for third (156).
Other UM finishers included Rachel Shaner (T-14th, 166); Heather
Mutton (T-17th, 170) and Britney Martin (T-21st, 174).
UM has concluded the 2008 spring golf season.
