GULF BREEZE, Fla. (4/8) -- The University
of Montevallo men's golf team competed at the Emerald Coast Classic
at Eagle Point, hosted by the University of West Florida Monday and
Tuesday. The teams completed 36 holes on Monday and 18
holes on Tuesday. Seven of the 17 teams in the field are
ranked in the Top 25 in the latest NCAA Division II/Golfstat
national rankings.
Tournament host and national No. 1 ranked West Florida
won the team competition, posting a three-round team
score of 858. No. 9 Georgia College and State University
was second (871), while No. 7 Valdosta State (881) was
third. UM posted a three-round team score of 978.
Individually, Kyle Scott of West Florida earned medalist
honors, recording a three-round score of 206 (66-70-70) to
finish 10 under par. Danny Hebert was the top finisher for UM, finishing
53rd overall with a three-round score of 233
(78-75-80).
Other UM scores included T.J. Butts (248,
T-82nd); Eric Abernathy (249, 85th); Jon
Henderson (257, T-87th) and Lee Callaway
(259, 89th).
UM will conclude the spring season at the 2008 Gulf
South Conference Men's Golf Championships, April 18-22
in Hot Springs, Ark.
MUSCLE SHOALS (4/1) -- The University of
Montevallo men's golf team placed 11th as a team (15
teams) at the North Alabama Spring Classic, held at the
Robert Trent Jones of the Shoals Fighting Joe Course in
Muscle Shoals Monday and Tuesday.
Tournament host North Alabama won the team competition, posting
a two-round team score of 584. Southwest Oklahoma State
University was second (609), while Delta State
University (611) finished third. UM posted a team
score of 652.
Individually, Brett Munson of North Alabama earned medalist
honors, recording a two-round score of 142 (70-72) to
finish 2 under par. Danny Hebert was the top finisher for UM, finishing
tied for 23rd overall with a two-round score of 156
(78-78).
Other UM scores included Jon Henderson (157,
T-29th); T.J. Butts (161, T-39th); Hernan
Gambertoglio (178, 68th) and Torrie Coghlin
(181, T-69th).
UM will next compete on April 7 and 8 at a
tournament hosted by the University of West Florida.
VILLA RICA, Ga. (3/25) -- The University of
Montevallo competed at the University of West Georgia
Invitational, played at Mirror Lake Golf Club in Villa
Rica, Ga.
Lindenwood University won the team competition, posting
a two-round team score of 620. Tournament host West
Georgia followed with a score of 621. UM posted a team
score of 653.
Individually, Kyle Gray of Lindenwood earned medalist
honors, recording a two-round score of 148 (72-76).
T.J. Butts was the top finisher for UM, finishing
tied for fifth overall with a two-round score of 157.
Other UM scores included Tripp Cash (163,
T-11th); Jon Henderson (166, 13th); Danny
Hebert (166, 14th) and Eric Abernathy (169,
T-17th).
UM will next compete on March 31 and April 1 at a
tournament hosted by the University of North Alabama.
CALERA (3/11) -- The University of
Montevallo competed at the Buffalo Wild Wings
Invitational, at Timberline Golf Club Monday and
Tuesday.
UM fielded two teams. The UM "A" team placed third
overall (six teams), while the "B" team placed fifth
overall.
The University of West Georgia won the team competition,
posting a two-round score of 584. Birmingham Southern
College was second (601), while the UM "A" team followed
with a two-round score of 607. Faulkner University was
fourth overall (611), followed by the UM "B" team (613).
Lambuth University (661) completed the field.
Individually, Nick Blakely of Birmingham Southern earned
medalist honors, recording a two-round score of 139
(72-67). T.J. Butts was the top finisher for UM
(B), posting a two-round score of 149 (77-72) to place
eighth overall. Other UM scores included Tripp Cash
(150 - T-9th); Jon Henderson (151, T-11th);
Eric Abernathy (153, T-14th); Danny Hebert
(153, T-14th); Lee Callaway (155, T-17th);
Hernan Gambertoglio (155, T-17th); Preston
Pierson (157, T-20th); Chris Maness (158,
22nd) and Torrie Coghlin
(170, 30th).
UM will next compete on March 24 and 25 in Carrollton,
Ga., in a tournament hosted by the University of West
Georgia.
MONTEVALLO (12/12) --
The University of Montevallo men's golf team will be
competing in five tournaments this spring.
UM will begin the spring season as hosts. The Falcons
will host the second annual Buffalo Wild Wings
Invitational, March 10 and 11 at the Timberline Golf
Club in Calera.
Next, the Falcons will travel to Carrollton, Ga. to compete in
a tournament hosted by the University of West Georgia
March 24 and 25.
The Falcons then travel to Florence to compete in a
tournament hosted by the University of North Alabama,
March 31 and April 1.
UM will compete in a tournament hosted by the University
of West Florida, April 7 and 8.
The Falcons are scheduled to conclude the regular season
in Hot Springs, Ark. at the 2008 Gulf South Conference
Men's Golf Championships, April 18-22.
DESTIN, Fla. (10/23) --
The University of Montevallo men's golf team placed
tied for eighth
as a team (17 teams) at the rain-shortened Indian Bayou
Classic, hosted by
the University of North Alabama, in Destin Fla.
The first round was completed on Monday. The second
round, scheduled for Tuesday was cancelled due to
weather.
Columbus State University won the team competition, with
a score of 293. Arkansas Tech University was second
(295) while Lander University (296) was third. UM posted
a team score of 303 to tie with West Georgia.
Individually, Patrick Wilson of Lander University earned
medalist honors, with a score of three under par 69.
Tripp Cash
was the top individual finisher for UM, finishing tied
for 9th with a score of 73. Other UM scores included
Torrie Coghlin, Danny Hebert (76), Jon
Henderson (78) and T.J. Butts (81).
UM has concluded competition for the fall season.
FLORENCE (10/16) --
The University of Montevallo men's golf team placed
sixth
as a team (11 teams) at the UNA Fall Classic, hosted by
the University of North Alabama, at the Blackberry
Trails Golf Course.
Tournament host UNA won the team competition, posting a
two-round team score four-under par 572. Newberry
College was second (580) while Catawba College (583) was
third. UM posted a two-round
team score of 609.
Individually, Brett Munson from North Alabama earned
medalist honors, with a score of 137. Jon Henderson
and Tripp Cash
were the top individual finishers for UM, as they finished
tied for 21st with a two round score of 151 . Other UM
scores included Danny Hebert (28th, 153),
Torrie Coughlin (T-29th, 154) and T.J. Butts (52nd,
167).
UM will conclude the fall season in Destin, Fla., Oct.
21-23. The University of North Alabama will serve as
tournament host.
CLEVELAND, Miss. (10/6) --
The University of Montevallo men's golf team placed 8th
as a team (18 teams) at the Derrall Foreman Invitational
, hosted by Delta State University at the Cleveland Golf
Club.
The University of North Alabama "Purple" team won the tournament, posting a
two-round team score of four-under par 572. Delta State
University "White" was second (582) with Henderson State
University finished third (584). UM posted a two-round
team score of 599.
Individually, Jack Bartlett from Henderson State earned
medalist honors, with a score of 134. T.J. Butts
was the top individual finisher for UM, as he finished
tied for 14th with a two round score of 147 (74-73). Other UM
scores included Danny Hebert (T-21st, 148),
Torrie Coughlin (T-33rd, 151), Tripp Cash (T-56th,
157) and Lee Callaway (T-65th, 159).
UM will next compete in a tournament by the University
of North Alabama Oct. 15 and 16.
BIRMINGHAM (9/25) --
The University of Montevallo men's golf team placed 10th
as a team (12 teams) at the Southern Showdown, hosted by
Birmingham Southern College at the Oxmoor Valley Golf
Club.
Berry College won the team competition, posting a
three-round team score of 886. Lipscomb University was
second (893), while Tennessee Tech (897) finished third.
UM posted a three-round team score of 955.
Individually, Thomas Hugghins, competing as an
individual from the University of Alabama, earned
medalist honors, with a score of 213. T.J. Butts
was the top individual finisher for UM, as he finished
tied for 33rd with a three round score of 237. Other UM
scores included Torrie Coughlin (T-35th, 238),
Tripp Cash (T-41st, 240), Danny Hebert (49th,
243) and Jon Henderson (T-61st, 252).
UM will next compete in a tournament by Delta State University on Oct. 4-5.
MONTEVALLO (7/24) – The University of Montevallo men’s
golf program has signed three student-athletes for the
2007-08 school year.
Lee Callaway, from Leeds, Preston Pearson, from Langley, British Columbia and Ruwaldt Viljoen, originally from Noordwyk, Johannesburg, South Africa have signed letters of intent to compete for the Falcons, beginning in Fall 2007.
Callaway
was named the Birmingham’s “Magic City” 3A Player of the
Year this past spring. He placed first in the Alabama
Sectional Tournament, posting a round of 72. He also
placed fifth overall in the Alabam State High School
Tournament.
Pearson carded four rounds in the 70s at the British
Columbia Junior Championship. He also posted rounds of
69 in the BC Spring Tour Championship and BC Zone 3
Championship. He also had two rounds of 70 (70 and 75)
at the Bowdens Junior Invitational.
Viljoen earned medalist honors at the Junior Golf Championship at the Kayalami Golf Club, then posted an 11th place finish at the South African International High School Golf Tournament in 2005. Viljoen also recorded a Top 15 finish at the Central Gauteng Amateur Event in 2006. He currently holds a 0 handicap at the Kayalami Country Club in Johannesburg.
“Along with T.J. Butts, who signed in the early signing period last fall, the men’s golf program will gain needed experience and depth to compete with the best in the Gulf South Conference and the region.” head coach Jeff Palmer said.
MONTEVALLO (7/18) --
The University of Montevallo men's golf team will be
competing in four tournaments this fall.
UM will compete in the Southern Showdown, hosted by
Birmingham Southern College on Sept. 23-25 at the Oxmoor
Valley Golf Club in Birmingham.
The Falcons then travel to Cleveland, Miss. for a
tournament hosted by Delta State University on Oct. 4-5.
Next, UM will compete in two tournaments hosted by the
University of North Alabama. UM travels to Florence for
a tournament Oct. 14-16.
UM concludes the fall season in Destin, Fla. at a
tournament Oct. 21-23.
