Katie Vanderhyden will finally get an opportunity to compete for the University of Montevallo women’s basketball program this season. Katie is recovering from an injury that required her to miss the 2006-07 season. She will compete for playing time in the post area. Katie is a transfer to UM from Seminole State College, where she competed for coach Rita Story-Schell, along with assistant coach, and former Falcon Kenneth Cooper. At SSC, Katie was a Second Team All-Conference selection. Katie was a tri-sport athlete at Joliet Township High School in Joliet, Ill. She was an Honorable Mention All-State selection and All-Conference selection while competing for coach Danny Turner. She was also an All-Area and All-Conference selection in volleyball and softball. Katie was also named to the National Honor Society and Lions Club.

A kinesiology major with an interest in sports massage therapy at UM, she is the daughter of Michelle and Russell Vanderhyden.
