SOUTHAVEN, Miss. (3/4) -- Freshman
forward Shan Jones has been
selected the 2008 Gulf South Conference
East Division Freshman of the Year,
while senior guard Jennifer Hendricks
and junior guard Jamie Graham
have been named to the Second Team
All-Gulf South Conference, it has been
announced.
Jones becomes the second Lady Falcon to
be named GSC East Freshman of the Year.
Jennifer Hendricks was named GSC East
Freshman of the Year for the 2004-05
season. The Hartselle native averaged
9.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game,
starting in 22 of 27 games. She has
scored in double figures in 17 games and
has collected six double-doubles this
season.
Hendricks led the Lady Falcons in
scoring (12.3 ppg) and became the eighth
Lady Falcon to surpass 1,000 points in
her career.
Graham averaged 11.4 points per game and
led UM in rebounding, grabbing 9.2
rebounds per game. She also posted ten
double-doubles on the season, five in
GSC play. Graham also scored in double
figures in 14 games, including six
consecutive games, and was named GSC
East Player of the Week on Feb. 25.
UM has concluded the 2007-2008 season.
LIVINGSTON (3/1)
-- Jennifer Hendricks scored a
team-high 19 points with five 3-point
baskets in her final game as a Lady
Falcon, however UM dropped a 79-62
decision to the University of West
Alabama, in a Gulf South Conference
women's basketball game in Livingston on
Saturday.
Shan Jones and Tiffany Johnson
posted double-double efforts, with Jones
scoring 15 points with 12 rebounds and
Johnson adding 11 points with a
team-high 14 rebounds.
Valerie Harris led UWA (8-4 GSC, 13-14)
with 19 points.
UM managed to shoot 35 percent
(24-for-68) for the game from the field
and was 36 percent (12-for-33 from the
field in the first half. UWA managed 57
percent (20-for-35) in the first half.
The Lady Falcons trailed by 11 points
(42-31) at halftime and managed to trim
the deficit to as few as six points
(51-45) with 14 minutes remaining in the
second half. A 3-point basket and
subsequent basket by Jessica Thompson
pushed the deficit back to double
digits.
UM did manage to out-rebound UWA, 45-35
overall, 22-12 on the offensive end.
UM concludes the 2007-2008 season with a
record of 2-10 in the GSC, 6-21 overall.
BIRMINGHAM (2/27) -- Junior
guard Jamie Graham has been
named the Gulf South Conference East
Division Player of the Week, it has been
announced by the conference office.
The 5-9 native of Twin Groves, Ark.
averaged 16.0 points and 12.0 rebounds
in two games for UM last weekend. Graham
posted her tenth double-double of the
season with a team-high 19 points and
game-high 15 rebounds in a victory over
West Florida on Saturday. She narrowly
missed her 11th double-double of the
season against No. 15 Valdosta State
University on Monday.
Graham is averaging 11.6 points and 9.5
rebounds per game and has scored in
double figures in 14 games this season,
including the last six consecutive
games.
Graham becomes the first Lady Falcon
this season to earn GSC East Player of
the Week honors

-- The University of Montevallo women's
basketball team battled with No. 14
Valdosta State University, however ended
up coming up short at the end, 62-56, in
a Gulf South Conference women's
basketball game at the People's Bank and Trust Arena and McChesney Student Activity Center
Monday night.
Jamie Graham just missed out on a
double-double, finishing with 13 points
and nine rebounds. Jennifer Hendricks
and Kandance Christopher also
scored in double figures for UM,
finishing with 10 points each.
Nina Risto led VSU (8-3 GSC, 22-4) with
20 points, 14 in the first half.
UM held a seven-point (15-8) advantage
with 12 minutes remaining in the first
half. VSU responded with an 8-0 run over
a two minute stretch to regain the lead.
VSU led by two points (20-18) and
outscored UM 11-4 over the final four
minutes of the half to lead by nine
points (31-22) at halftime.
The Lady Falcons slowly chipped away at
the deficit, pulling to within two
points (34-32) with just under 14
minutes remaining. Later, VSU led by six
points (44-38), when UM scored the next
five points of the game to make it a
44-43 game with eight minutes remaining.
VSU went on an 8-0 run over the next
three minutes to push the deficit back
to nine points.
UM had one last chance in the final
minute. Trailing by four points (60-56),
Christopher was fouled and two free
throws with 35 seconds remaining. VSU
was able to make a basket with 16
seconds remaining and two free throws
with six seconds remaining to close out
the scoring.
UM (2-9 GSC, 6-20) will travel to the
University of West Alabama for a Gulf
South Conference game and final game of
the 2007-2008 season Saturday afternoon

Four Lady Falcons scored in double
figures. Jamie Graham recorded her second
consecutive and tenth double-double of
the season, with a team-high 19 points
and 15 rebounds to lead UM. Hendricks
added 13 points, while

respectively.
Hendricks becomes the eighth
Lady Falcon in school history to reach
1,000 points and first Lady Falcon since
since Cara Melton in 2003.
Dominique Boykins led UWF (2-8 GSC,
9-16) with 20 points.
UM trailed by as many as six points in
the first half. UM trailed by four
points, when Christina Shelton made a
3-point basket. Later, Graham sank a
jumper to give UM their first lead of
the game. UM put together an 11-2
scoring run over the final seven minutes
of the first half to build a 10-point
(35-25) lead at halftime.
The victory snapped a seven-game losing
skid, and allowed UM to split the season
series with UWF.
Unfortunately, in other GSC East action,
UAH was able to post a 71-67 victory
over North Alabama to eliminate UM from
post-season consideration.

Lady Falcon effort with a 15 points and
10 rebounds. Shan Jones and

respectively.
Ashley Huff led UWG (10-0 GSC, 23-2)
with a double-double of her own, 18
points and 10 rebounds.

The Lady Falcons dropped another Gulf
South Conference game, this time an
87-64 setback to the University of
Alabama-Huntsville, in action in
Huntsville on Saturday.
Four Falcons scored in double figures.
Shan Jones and Jamie Graham
collected double-doubles. Jones scored a
team-high 15 points and grabbing 11
rebounds, while Graham had 10 points and
10 rebounds. Jennifer Hendricks
scored 14 points, including four 3-point
baskets while Christina Shelton
scored 10 points.
Kristen Banes led UAH (3-6 GSC, 11-13)
with 21 points.
UM won the rebounding battle, 44-39 with
Jones collecting eight offensive
rebounds and Graham six offensive
boards. UM collected 24 offensive
rebounds as a team.
The Lady Falcons did not shoot well, 28
percent (11-for-39) in the second half
and 32 percent (21-for-66) for the game.
UAH managed 60 percent (34-for-57) from
the field.
UM trailed by 14 points (46-32) at
halftime.

fell behind, and a late rally
came up short, as UM dropped
a 75-69 decision to the University of
North Alabama, in a

Center Saturday afternoon.
Four Lady Falcons scored in double
figures. Alex Vollmeier scored a
team-high 17 points. Jamie Graham
scored 15 points, while Tiffany
Johnson and Shan Jones scored
10 points each. Graham also grabbed a
team-high eight rebounds and collected
three steals. Jennifer Hendricks
had five assists.
Amber Rutherford and Shay Ashford led
UNA (4-3 GSC, 11-11) with 16 points
each.
A 3-point basket by Nicole Lowery
gave UM a 16-10 lead with 13 minutes
remaining in the first half. A 10-2 UNA
run over the next 5 1/2 minutes gave the
Lions a lead. UNA led by four
points (31-27) at halftime, and extended
their lead to 13 points (63-50) with six
minutes remaining in the game. UM
outscored UNA 19-8 over the next five
minutes to trim the deficit to two
points (71-69). UNA was able to sink
four free throws in the final minute to
close out the scoring.
UM shot better in the second half (45
percent) than the first half (33
percent) and managed 40 percent
(25-for-62) from the field.

first half deficit, but eventually came

Center Saturday night.
Jamie Graham posted a
double-double with 19 points and 11
rebounds. Carrie Parrott added 11
points and nine rebounds. Shan Jones
also collected a double-double with 10
points and a team-high 13 rebounds.
Valerie Harris led UWA (4-2 GSC, 8-12)
with 19 points.
UM trailed by 17 points (35-18) and
outscored UWA 8-1 over the final three
minutes to trim the deficit to 10 points
(36-26) at halftime.
A 15-5 UM run over the first four
minutes, capped by a 3-point play by
Carrie Parrot, tied the game at 41-41.
UM led by five points (59-54) with six
minutes remaining, when UWA put together
a 7-2 run to tie the game at 61-61 with
just over four minutes remaining. UWA
outscored UM 14-6 the rest of the way.

VALDOSTA, Ga. (1/28) – The Lady Falcons dropped their third consecutive Gulf South Conference game, as Valdosta State University posted a 90-41 victory over UM in Valdosta, Ga. Monday night.
No Lady Falcon scored in double figures. Nicole Lowery and Christina Shelton led UM with nine points each. Shelton made three 3-point baskets in the second half.
Carley Peterson led VSU (3-2 GSC, 17-3) with 17 points, including five 3-point baskets.
As UM struggled out of the gate, VSU made their first 10 of 11 shots (90 percent) to lead by 22 points and by 28 points (54-26) at halftime.
Although UM was out-rebounded by 10 overall (39-29), the Lady Falcons held a 17-16 advantage on the boards in the first half.
UM managed to shoot 30 percent (16-for-53) from the field, while VSU made 58 percent (36-for-62) of their attempts.

(1/26) -- Three Lady Falcons scored in
double figures, however, the University
of Montevallo came up on the short end

Jennifer Hendricks led UM with 19
points, including five 3-point baskets,
two in the last minute. Shan Jones
posted a double-double with 13 points
and 11 rebounds, while Nicole Lowery
also scored in double figures with 10
points, while dishing out seven assists.
Carrie Parrott added eight points and
eight rebounds, while Tiffany Johnson
grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds and
collected six steals.
Dominque Boykins led UWF (1-3 GSC, 8-11)
with 15 points.
UM stepped out to an eight-point (11-3)
lead, however an 11-3 UWF run tied the
game at 14-14. UWF went on to lead by as
many as nine points (25-16) with two
minutes remaining in the first half.
Back-to-back baskets by Parrott made the
margin five points (25-20) at halftime.
A layup by Johnson and a 3-point basket
by Lowery tied the game at 25-25. Later,
with UWF leading by two points (45-43)
the Argos put together a 13-3 run over a
four minute period to put the margin at
double digits.
The Lady Falcons shot better in the
second half (44 percent) opposed to the
first (27 percent) and out-rebounded UWF
42-39.

FLORENCE (1/19) -- A second-half rally came up a little short as the University of Montevallo women’s basketball team dropped a 71-60 decision to the University of North Alabama in a Gulf South Conference game in Florence on Saturday.
Jennifer Hendricks led UM with 14 points. Katie Vanderhyden added 12 points, including 10 points in the second half.
Shay Ashford posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds, and was 11-of-12 from the free throw line.
The Lady Falcons nearly rallied from a 21-point second half deficit, putting together a 16-5 run over a five minute stretch to pull to within six points (62-56) with just over two minutes remaining. UNA outscored UM 9-4 the rest of the way, with Ashford sinking six free throws.
UM shot better in the second half (39 percent) and did manage to convert 31 percent (21-for-67) from the field, however, did not shoot well (20 percent) from the 3-point line (4-for-20).

UM scored the first seven points of the
game and briefly built the lead to 10
points with 12 minutes remaining in the
first half. UAH scored the next seven
points to trim the lead to three,
however UM pushed the lead back to
double digits and led by 10 points
(37-27) at halftime.
UM led by 12 points, when UAH put
together a 10-1 run to trim the lead to
three points (40-37) with 13 minutes
left. UAH eventually tied the game at
51-51 on a basket by Kristen Banes with
just over three minutes left, however
UAH would never gain the lead.
The Lady Falcons shot well in the first
half (47 percent) and survived a poor
shooting performance in the second half.
UM also had an advantage in rebounds,
out-rebounding UAH 55-34.

Dominic Cranford led UWG (1-0 GSC, 14-2)
with 22 points and was 10-of-18 from the
free throw line. UM as a team posted the
same effort, 10-for-18. UWG was
15-for-31 for the night.
UM took advantage of poor UWG shooting
in the first half, eventually building a
lead as many as 13 points (seven minutes
remaining). UM led by 10 points with
just over two minutes left in the half,
when UWG scored the next four points,
including a rebound putback just before
the buzzer to make the margin six points
(33-27) at halftime.
The Lady Falcons built the lead back
to 10 points four minutes into the
second half. A 12-2 UWG run over the
next four minutes tied the game at
41-41. A 11-4 UWG run over the next
three minutes pushed the deficit to
seven points. UM pulled to within three
points (56-53) with five minutes left,
however an 8-1 run put the deficit back
in double digits with two minutes
remaining.
For the game UM shot better from the
field (41 percent, 23-for-56) compared
to UWG (33 percent, 24-for-72). However
UWG had a decided advantage on the
offensive glass, with 30 offensive
rebounds (51 total) compared to UM with
16 (44 total).

ATLANTA, Ga. (1/9) – A 3-point basket by Nicole Lowery at the buzzer forced an overtime, however the University of Montevallo eventually dropped a 77-70 decision to Clark Atlanta University, in a non-conference women’s basketball game at CAU on Wednesday.
Jennifer Hendricks scored 20 points to lead UM, including five 3-point baskets, two in the last minute of the second half. Shan Jones and Katie Vanderhyden also scored in double figures, finishing with 13 and 12 points, respectively.
Shantrell Moss posted a double-double to lead CAU (7-4) with 21 points and 14 rebounds.
UM led by five points twice in the first half and gave up six straight points in the final two minutes to trail by one point (32-31) at halftime.
The game remained within five points for most of the second half. UM trailed by five points (54-49) with just under two minutes remaining when Hendricks sank her third 3-point basket of the night to trim the deficit to two points. CAU later led by four points (59-55) in the final seconds when Hendricks made another 3-point basket with six seconds remaining. CAU made two free throws with 4.7 seconds remaining to put the margin back at three points.
Lowery
pushed the ball to the front court,
raced to the right side and drained a
3-point basket at the buzzer to force
overtime. It would turn out to be
her only 3-point basket of the
night.
UM fell behind in the overtime period
and was forced to foul. Unlike the
second half, where CAU struggled late,
the Panthers managed to sink 11-of-16 of
their free throw attempts in the extra
period. For the game, CAU made more free
throws (35) then UM attempted (24). CAU
was 66 percent (35-for-53) from the
line, 65 percent (26-for-40) in the
second half and overtime.
The Lady Falcons managed 33 percent (26-for-78) from the field, 28 percent (7-for-25) from the 3-point line and struggled at the free throw line making 45 percent (11-for-24) and 39 percent (7-for-18) in the second half and overtime.

points, connecting on 8-of-12 from the
field. Tiffany Johnson and
Nicole Lowery added 11 points each.
Johnson grabbed a team-high six
rebounds, while Lowery sank four key
free throws in the final 15 seconds to
preserve the victory. Lowery along with
Jennifer Hendricks had five
assists each.
Three Lady Tigers (3-9) scored in double
figures as well, led by Melissa
Richardson with a game-high 19 points,
including five 3-point baskets.
UM nearly had a 22-point lead disappear
in the second half. OBU trimmed the lead
down to two points (71-69) with 15
seconds remaining. Lowery was fouled on
the inbounds pass and made two free
throws to push the lead back to four
(73-69). After a 3-point basket by Gabby
Coleman with six seconds remaining, UM
was able to run the clock down to 0.5
seconds when Lowery was fouled again and
made two free throws for the final
margin.
UM trailed by as many as seven points
(23-16) with 12 minutes remaining in the
first half. Over the next eight minutes,
UM outscored OBU 23-2 to lead by 14
points. The lead built from 16 points
(45-29) at halftime to as many as 22
points, before the near comeback by OBU.
UM (4-10) travels to Clark Atlanta
University for a non-conference game

SAN ANTONIO, Tex. (12/31) -- The Lady
Falcons were defeated by tournament host
St. Mary's, 70-51, in second day action
at the St. Mary's New Year's
Classic in San Antonio, Tex. on Monday.
Shan Jones led UM with 15 points
while Tiffany Johnson added 11
points.
UM had a slight advantage in rebounds
and a decided advantage in offensive
rebounds. The Lady Falcons collected 17
offensive rebounds (8 for SMU) and held
a 38-35 advantage overall. Alex
Vollmeier grabbed a game-high 10
rebounds, while Jamie Graham
collected nine rebounds. Both had four
offensive rebounds each.
After the tournament, Jones was named to
the All-Tournament Team. For the two
games, she averaged 13.5 points and
seven rebounds per game.
Natalie Gamez, named the tournament MVP,
led St. Mary's with 21 points.
UM rallied from a double-digit deficit
in the first half, trimming an 15-point
deficit (31-16) over the final six
minutes of the half, down to three
points (33-30). A 3-point basket by
Jennifer Hendricks started a 9-0 scoring
run over the first four minutes as the
Lady Falcons built a 39-33 lead. SMU
managed to tie the game at 40-40. Later
with the game tied at 46-46, SMU put
together an 11-0 run over a three minute
stretch to build their lead back to
double digits, and managed to outscore
UM 24-5 over the final eight minutes.

Falcons were defeated by the University
of Incarnate Word, 77-66, in first day
action at the St. Mary's New Year's
Classic in San Antonio, Tex. on Sunday.
Jamie Graham collected her fifth
double-double of the season with a
team-high 17 points and game-high 11
rebounds. Jennifer Hendricks and
Shan Jones also scored in double
figures with 16 and 12 points,
respectively.
Nia Torru led UIW (4-7) with a game-high
22 points, including a perfect 11-for-11
from the free throw line.
UM started slowly, trailing by as many
as 11 points in the first half. Later in
the half with UM trailing by eight
(22-14), the Lady Falcons put together a
9-0 run (a pair of two-point basket and
a three-point basket by Hendricks and a
basket Graham) over a two minute stretch
gave UM their first lead of the game.
Trailing by one point (28-27) at
halftime, Katie Vanderhyden
scored the first basket of the second
half to give UM a 29-28 lead. A layup by
Torru was countered by a 3-point basket
by Nicole Lowery for a 32-30 UM
lead. A UIW basket by Kim Robinson and
3-point basket by Torru in subsequent
possessions gave UIW the lead for good.
In the closing minute, Torru was able to
make six consecutive free throws to keep
UIW in front.
UIW had a decided advantage in free
throws, connecting on 81 percent
(21-for-26), including 8-or-8 in the
last minute. UM managed 70 percent
(9-for-13). UIW also shot much better in
the second half, 66 percent (15-for-23)
and 51 percent (25-for-49) for the game.
UM shot 40 percent (26-for-65) from the
field.
UM (3-9) will continue at the Classic on
Monday and will play tournament host St.
Mary's University for a non-conference
game at 4 p.m.
RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. (12/18) --
The Lady Falcons were defeated by
Arkansas Tech University, 91-67, in a
non-conference women's basketball game
in Russellville, Ark. on Tuesday.
Tiffany Johnson posted a
double-double, scoring a team-high 16
points and grabbing a team-high 10
rebounds. Jennifer Hendricks and
Alex Vollmeier also scored in
double figures, finishing with 12 and 11
points, respectively.
ATU (8-2) won the game at the free throw
line, making the most of the
opportunity. ATU tied a school
single-game record for free throws as
they managed to sink 33 of 40 attempts,
including 24-for-28 from the line in the
second half. UM did not fare as well,
managing 56 percent from the line
(10-for-18). UM was 47 percent
(16-for-34) from the field in the second
half and 39 percent (26-for-67) from the
field.
Amanda Grappe led ATU with 25 points and
was 17-for-18 from the free throw line.
Johnson made the first basket of the
game. Both teams got off to a slow start
scoring, with UM holding a 13-12 lead
midway in the first half. Grappe scored
back-to-back baskets to give ATU the
lead for good. ATU led by 11 points
(37-26) at halftime. In the second half,
leading by eight points (38-30) ATU went
on a 15-0 scoring run in 2 1/2 minutes
to break the game open. During the run,
UM was whistled for five fouls. Grappe
scored 13 points, 10 from the free throw
line.
UM (3-8) is off for a Christmas holiday
break and will return to action on Dec.
30 and 31 to participate in a tournament
hosted by St. Mary's University in San
Antonio, Tex. UM will meet the
University of the Incarnate Word for a
non-conference game on Dec. 30 at 4 p.m.
MONTEVALLO (12/15) -- The Lady
Falcons stumbled at the free throw line
in the second half and overtime, and
dropped a 73-65 decision to No. 21
University of South Carolina-Aiken, in a
non-conference women's basketball game
at the People's Bank and Trust Arena and
McChesney Student Activity Center
Saturday afternoon.
UM was 2-of-2 from the line in the first
half, however went 57 percent
(15-for-26) from the line for the game
and 54 percent (13-for-24) in the second
half and overtime.
The Lady Falcons had a chance to seal a
victory in regulation. Leading 55-52
with the ball, UM missed two free
throws. USCA (7-1) made a 3-point basket
with three seconds remaining to send the
game into overtime.
In the extra period, USCA managed
12-of-12 from the line.
Nicole Lowery led UM with 14
points. Kristen Seigenthaler added 11
points, including three 3-point baskets.
Jamie Graham and Shan Jones
also scored in double figures with 10
points each. Graham also posted another
double-double, grabbing 14 rebounds.
Meredith Legg led USCA with 23 points,
10 in overtime, and was 10-for-10
(8-for-8 in OT).
Neither team shot well from the field
with USCA shooting 33 percent
(24-for-72) from the field and 20
percent (7-for-35) from the 3-point
line. UM was 34 percent (22-for-65) from
the field and 33 percent (6-for-18) from
the 3-point line.

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (12/8) -- Alex
Vollmeier scored a team-high 19
points, while Shan Jones posted a
double-double with 12 points and 11
rebounds to lead the University of
Montevallo to a 72-61 victory over
Ouachita Baptist University in second
day action at the Lady Tiger Classic,
hosted by OBU in Arkadelphia, Ark.
on Saturday.
Jamie Graham also grabbed 10
rebounds as the Lady Falcons earned a
weekend split of two games.
Jennifer Hendricks added nine points
and had five assists. It was also a
personal best for Vollmeier, who scored
17 points against Shorter College
earlier this season.
Gabby Coleman led OBU (3-6) with 22
points.
UM shot 58 percent (14-for-24) from the
field in the second half, and made five
3-point baskets. For the game UM was 44
percent (26-for-59) from the field and
43 percent (7-for-16) from the 3-point
line. OBU managed 26 percent (8-for-31)
in the second half and 28 percent
(18-for-64) for the game.
The Lady Falcons led by one point
(31-30) at halftime and built a 10-point
lead with 14 minutes remaining. OBU put
together an 11-3 run over a two minute
stretch to pull to within two points
(49-47), however, UM responded with a
16-2 run over the next 6 1/2 minutes to
pull away. Hendricks scored seven of her
nine points during the run with UM
converting 6-of-9 attempts. At the same
time, OBU was 0-11 from the field (0-4
from 3-point line) and would get no
closer than 10 points the rest of the
way.
UM (3-6) takes a break for finals and
will return to action at home on
Saturday, as they will host the
University of South Carolina-Aiken for a
non-conference game, beginning at 1 p.m.
ARKADELPHIA, Ark. (12/7) -- UAM
picked up a pair of baskets late in the
second half to get past UM, as UAM
picked up a 73-69 decision over the Lady
Falcons in first day action at the Lady
Tiger Classic, hosted by Ouachita
Baptist University, in Arkadelphia, Ark.
Friday afternoon.
Katie Vanderhyden posted a
game-high 19 points on 9-of-10 shooting
from the field to lead UM. Tiaren
Young also scored in double figures,
finishing with 13 points.
Four UAM players finished in double
figures, led by Kristi Martin with 17
points. Two free throws by Gemma Gibson
sandwiched in between baskets by Erika
Brown gave UAM a 70-69 lead with two
minutes remaining. After each team
missed a 3-point attempt, UM turned the
ball over and Martin scored her last
basket for a 72-69 UAM lead with one
minute remaining. UM missed on attempts
to tie the game. Gibson made a free
throw in the final seconds to close out
the scoring.
UM shot fair from the field, 41 percent
(29-for-71) by only 25 percent
(6-for-24) from the 3-point line. UAM
had a decided advantage at the free
throw line, converting 17-for-27 while
UM was 5-for-7.
Jamie Graham and Kristen
Seigenthaler added eight points
each, while Graham grabbed a team-high
eight rebounds.
UM (2-6) continues at the Classic on Saturday and will play tournament host Ouachita Baptist University at 3 p.m.
NASHVILLE (12/4) -- The host Bruins
utilized a 13-4 run to open the second
half, as Belmont University coasted to a
86-45 victory over the University of
Montevallo, in a non-conference women's
basketball game at the Curb Events
Center in Nashville, Tenn. Tuesday
night.
Four Bruins scored in double figures,
led by Brooke Sunday with 18 points.
Jamie Graham collected her third
double-double in the past four games
with a team-high 16 points and game-high
11 rebounds. Unfortunately, she was the
only Lady Falcon to score in double
figures. Nicole Lowery was the
next closest with seven points (on
3-for-3 shooting).
For a half at least, the Lady Falcons
were able to keep pace with the NCAA
Division I Bruins. UM out-rebounded BU
by four (21-17) and had nine offensive
rebounds as a team. UM and BU had the
same number of baskets made (11), with
BU holding a slight advantage in 3-point
baskets made (3-to-1) and free throws
(7-of-8 opposed to 2-for-4 for UM). UM
trailed by as many as 11 and managed to
pull to within three points with four
minutes remaining in the first half.
BU led by seven points (32-25) at
halftime and put together a 13-4 run
over the first four minutes of the
second half to break the game open. UM
did not shoot well in either half,
managing 32 percent (20-for-62) for the
game and 15 percent (2-for-13) from the
3-point line. The scoring margin got out
of hand as UM scored five points over
the final eight minutes.
UM (2-5) will travel to Arkadelphia,
Ark. this weekend to compete in the
Ouachita Baptist Classic. UM will begin
the two-day tournament against the
University of Arkansas-Monticello,
Friday afternoon at 4 p.m.
MONTEVALLO (12/1) -- A late basket
and four free throws allowed visiting
Christian Brothers University to post a
57-52 victory over the University of
Montevallo, in a non-conference women's
basketball game at the People's Bank and
Trust Arena and McChesney Student
Activity Center Saturday night.
With UM trailing by one, Katie
Vanderhyden made a basket with one
minute remaining in the second half.
Erin Nigh made a basket with 39 seconds
remaining to give CBU (5-1) a 52-51
lead. Crystal Shelton, who led CBU with
a game-high 18 points was fouled after
rebounding a UM miss and made two free
throws to remain perfect (8-for-8) on
the night with 18 seconds left.
UM had a final attempt to tie, however a
3-point try by Jennifer Hendricks
came up short. Kat Butler made two free
throws to close out the scoring.
Hendricks was the only Lady Falcon to
finish in double figures with 12 points,
including three 3-point baskets. Tiaren
Young collected a team-high seven
rebounds.
Neither team shot well, with CBU making
35 percent (16-for-46) from the field
and 38 percent (6-for-16) from the
3-point line. UM was 31 percent
(20-for-66) and 29 percent (6-for-17)
from the 3-point line. CBU had a decided
advantage at the free throw line
(19-for-28) versus (7-for-16 for UM).
UM led by two points (28-26) at
halftime, and trailed by five points
(46-41) with eight minutes remaining. A
basket by Kristen Seigenthaler
and subsequent 3-point play by
Seigenthaler completed a 5-0 run and
tied the game at 46-46.
UM (2-4) travels to NCAA Division I
Belmont University for a non-conference
game Tuesday night at 5 p.m.
MOBILE (11/28) -- The University of
Montevallo women's basketball team ran
into a hot shooting University of Mobile
squad in the first half. The "other UM"
defeated the Lady Falcons, 92-81, in a
non-conference women's basketball game
in Mobile at Pharr Gym on Wednesday.
Jennifer Hendricks scored 19
points, including four 3-point baskets
to lead the Lady Falcon effort. Jamie Graham
posted her second consecutive double-double,
finishing once again with 13 points
and a game-high 10 rebounds. Tiffany
Johnson and Shan Jones added
11 points each.
Angela Bounds and Sherri McIntosh scored
24 points each to lead the Lady Rams.
Mobile connected on 70 percent
(21-for-30) of their shots in the first
half, and managed to make 60 percent
(33-for-55) from the field for the
night. The Lady Rams were also 60
percent (3-of-5) from the 3-point line
and 68 percent (23-for-34) from the free
throw line. The Lady Falcons managed 44
percent (28-for-64) from the field and
79 percent (19-for-24) from the free
throw line, however were only 26 percent
(6-for-23) from the 3-point line,
2-for-13 in the first half.

posted a double-double with 13 points
and a game-high 10 rebounds for the
University of Montevallo in a 66-60
victory over Shorter College, at the
People's Bank and Trust Arena and McChesney Student Activity Center
Monday night.
Alex Vollmeier tied a
personal-best with a team-high 17
points, including three 3-point baskets.
Jennifer Hendricks and Nicole
Lowery also scored in double
figures, finishing with 11 and 10
points, respectively. Vollmeier
previously scored 17 points against
Arkansas Tech last season.
Sandra Kostandinovic led Shorter (4-2)
with a game-high 18 points.
UM built a double-digit lead in the
first half, leading by 13 points (37-24)
at halftime. UM led by as many as 15
points in the second half, and led by 13
points when Shorter put together a 9-0
run over a three minute stretch to trim
the lead to four points (51-47). In the
final two minutes with UM leading by
four points (60-56), Graham was able to
make baskets on consecutive UM
possessions to keep the margin at four
points (SC with a basket and two free
throws during this time). Hendricks then
sank two final free throws with six
seconds remaining to close out the
scoring.
Hendricks made three 3-point baskets,
grabbed five rebounds, had five assists
and four steals. UM had a slight
advantage in rebounds (39-35) and was a
successful 12-of-14 from the free throw
line.

MONTEVALLO (11/20) -- Four Lady
Falcons scored in double figures as the
University of Montevallo earned their
first win of the season with a 79-70
victory over Stillman College, at the
People's Bank and Trust Arena and McChesney Student Activity Center
Tuesday night.
Jennifer Hendricks scored a
game-high 24 points, which included
seven 3-point baskets. Hendricks tied a
personal best in that category, she
made seven 3-point baskets against
Eckerd College last season.
Jamie Graham scored 13 points and
grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.
Tiaren Young and Shan Jones also scored
in double figures, finishing with 12 and
11 points, respectively. Nicole
Lowery had a team-high nine assists.
Tiffany McGhee led Stillman (0-2)
with 22 points.
Leading by three with just under eight
minutes remaining in the first half, UM
put together an 11-0 run over the next
four minutes to lead by double digits.
UM led by 14 points (42-28) at halftime,
and as many as 18 points in the second
half. Stillman trimmed the Lady Falcon
lead to six points (52-46) with 11 1/2
minutes remaining, however UM managed a
7-0 run over the next three minutes to
push the lead back to double digits.
UM (1-2) is off for the Thanksgiving
holidays and will return to action at
home on Monday, November 26 against
Shorter College for a non-conference

Hendricks scored a game-high 16
points in a losing effort, as the
University of Montevallo lost to Auburn
University-Montgomery, 54-45, in second
day action at the UM Coca-Cola Classic,
at the People's Bank and Trust Arena and McChesney Student Activity Center
Saturday
afternoon.
Hendricks also sank four 3-point
baskets. Shan Jones also scored
in double figures, finishing with 12
points. Jamie Graham added seven points,
and a team-high eight rebounds.
Destiny Dulin posted a double-double (13
points, 13 rebounds) to lead AUM, who
improved to 3-1 on the season.
UM struggled on offense in the first
half, not scoring their 10th point until
3 1/2 minutes remaining. UM shot 24
percent (6-for-25) in the first half,
and 29 percent (15-for-51) in the game.
Trailing by eight points (25-17) at
halftime and 10 points (36-26) six
minutes into the second half, UM put
together an 8-0 run over the next
four minutes to pull to within two
points (36-34). AUM responded with a 7-1
run of their own to keep their distance.
UM (0-2) will host Stillman College for
a non-conference game Tuesday night at
5:30 p.m.

Falcons scored in double figures,
however the University of Montevallo
suffered through a poor shooting first
half and eventually dropped a 78-66
decision to Harding University in first
day action at the UM Coca-Cola Classic,
at the People's Bank and Trust Arena and
McChesney Student Activity Center Friday
afternoon.
Jennifer Hendricks scored 13
points, including three 3-point baskets.
Carrie Parrott nearly posted a
double-double in her first game as a
Lady Falcon, finishing with 13 points
and nine rebounds. Jamie Graham
also scored in double figures, finishing
with 12 points.
Kelsea Lyda led HU (1-0) with a
game-high 23 points.
UM raced out to a 14-5 lead in the first
six minutes of the game. The Lady Bisons
put together a 10-0 run over the next
four minutes to take their first lead
(15-14) then outscored UM 22-6 the rest
of the half. UM made 26 percent
(8-of-31) from the field and 10 percent
(1-of-10) from the 3-point line in the
first half to trail by 16 points (37-21)
at halftime.
UM shot better in the second half,
making 40 percent of their shots, but
only 18 percent from the 3-point line.
UM outscored HU 45-41 in the second
half.

points, on 6-of-11 shooting.
UM trailed by 21 points (47-26) at
halftime, but shot the ball better in
the first half, making 11-of-25 of their
shots from the field. In the second
half, UM outscored AAUM by two points
(36-34), and ended up shooting 42
percent (24-of-57) from the field, and
an improvement (4-of-12) from the
3-point line.
UM will begin the 2007 regular season on
Friday, November 16. UM will host the UM
Coca-Cola Classic, and will play Harding

dropped a 76-37 decision to Samford
University in an exhibition center at
the new Pete Hanna Center on the Samford
campus Monday night.
Tiffany Johnson led UM with nine
points and 10 rebounds.
UM trailed early and did not shoot well
for the game, converting 24 percent
(14-for-58) from the field and 10
percent (2-for-20) from the 3-point
line.
UM will travel to Normal on Wednesday to
meet Alabama A&M University in an
exhibition game Wednesday night at 7
p.m.
BIRMINGHAM (10/18) -- The University
of Montevallo women's basketball team
was picked to finish seventh (East) in
the 2007-08 Gulf South Conference
Women's Basketball coaches poll, it has been
announced.
Valdosta State (33) was picked to finish
first in the GSC East, with North
Alabama (26) picked to finish second.
West Georgia (24) and West Florida (23)
were picked third and fourth. West
Alabama (20), Alabama-Huntsville (14)
and UM (7) rounds out the division.
In the GSC West, Delta State (49) edged out
Arkansas Tech
(43) for the top spot, while Harding (34) was selected third.
DSU also received a solid majority of
votes by GSC coaches to win the GSC
championship.
No Lady Falcon was named to the GSC
Pre-Season Women's Basketball Team.
Named to the team from the GSC East are
Kristen Banes of UAH, Tandra Inmon and
Amber Rutherford of North Alabama,
Carley Peterson from Valdosta State and
Ashton Washington from West Alabama.
UM will begin the 2007-08 season with
exhibition games at Samford University
(Nov. 5 - 5:30 p.m.) and at Alabama A&M
University (Nov. 7 - 7 p.m.) UM will
begin the 2007-08 regular season at home
as the Lady Falcons host the UM
Coca-Cola Classic, Friday and Saturday,
November 16 and 17. UM will meet Harding
University on Friday (11/16) and Auburn
University-Montgomery on Saturday

MONTEVALLO (5/23) – The University of
Montevallo women's basketball team has
added five student-athletes for the
2007-08 season, it has been announced by
head coach Roy Dixon.
Kandace Christopher (Attalla),
Jamie Graham (Twin Groves, Ark.),
Carrie Parrot (Murfreesboro, Tenn.),
Kristen Seigenthaler
(Murfreesboro, Tenn.) and Christina
Shelton (Maylene) will join the Lady
Falcons this fall.
Christopher, a 5-10 guard competed for coach John Butts from Etowah County High School. She was a five-year starter, who eclipsed the 1,000 career point plateau and is the all-time assist leader with over 800 assists. This past season, Kandace averaged 10 points, 9.4 assists and 6 rebounds per game, while leading her team to the best record in school history. Kandace made the All-Area team four times and was on the Gadsden Times All-Area team twice during her career. “Kandace will bring to us size and skills at the point guard position." Dixon said. "Kandace has the ability to be a very dominant point guard in our league with her ability to push the ball up the floor, pass, with her being able to look over the defense and score when called on to do so.”
Graham, a 5-9 guard, will transfer to UM from Seminole State College in Seminole, Oklahoma. As a sophomore, she was named Second Team NJCAA All-American, First Team NJCAA All-Region, Region II MVP and First Team All-Conference. She led the team in scoring and rebounding averaging 14.3 points, 10.3 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game, helping the team to a 25-6 record and the Bi-State West conference championship. As a freshman, she led the team in scoring (9.6 ppg) while averaging 6.4 rebounds per game. Jamie was named First Team All-Conference and First Team All-Region. “Jamie brings a lot of experience to our team with her athletic ability and knowledge of the game will be called on to be a leader on the floor through her play." Dixon said. "Her ability to defend the 1, 2, and 3 spot will give us a plus when called on to give us a defensive advantage at one of those position. Jamie is very passionate and intense about the game and will play a very big part in getting the team ready to play.”
Parrot, a 5-11 forward competed for Coach Alan Bush at Siegel High school. She set a school records for most points (1,195), rebounds (779) and field goal percentage (.538) during her four-year career. This past season Carrie led the team in scoring with 13.5 ppg and rebounding with 6.9 rpg. Carrie also led the district in field goal percentage shooting .609. Carrie was name to the 2006-07 All-District 7-AAA team and was a First Team Al- Middle Tennessee selection. “Carrie will be a welcome addition to the post game with her ability to catch the ball and score." Dixon said. "She uses her body well in the post and has probably the best hands I have seen on a freshman. Carrie should see significant playing time in the rotation of the post.”
Seigenthaler, a 5-10 guard and teammate of Parrott at Siegel High School, was a three-year starter. This past season she averaged 10.5 points and 2.4 assists per game, while shooting 47 percent from the 3-point line, and 83 percent from the free-throw line. She was named Honorable Mention DNJ All-Area Team as well as an Second Team All-Distraict 7 AAA selection. “Kristen is a student of the game and will bring to the team much needed consistency on the perimeter." Dixon said. "Kristen is a big guard with the ability to shoot spotted up or off the dribble and her size will make a give us a definite match up advantage on smaller size defenders.”
Shelton, a 5-7 guard from nearby Thompson High school averaged five points, three rebounds and two steals per game, while shooting 39 percent from the 3-point line. “Christina is team player that goes hard every play and plays with a lot of passion and intensity. Dixon said. "Christina has a knack for getting the ball where it needs to go while being a threat from the outside if left alone.”
UM concluded the 2006-07 season at
14-14 overall.
