Falcons to open 2008-09 season at Disney's Division II Tip-Off Classic

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- The University of Montevallo will be one of eight schools to participate in the 12th annual Disney's Division II Tip-Off Classic, to be held November 6-9 at the Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex and Walt Disney World Resort.

In addition to UM, the 2008 tournament field includes Minnesota State University-Mankato, Lees-McRae College, University of Southern Indiana, University of Minnesota-Duluth, Saint Martin's University, Bentley College and Florida Southern College.

Former UM coach Bill Jones passes away

The University of Montevallo’s second men’s basketball coach, Bill Jones, passed away late Tuesday night after an extended illness. He was 72.

Visitation is set for 4-8 p.m. on Thursday at Greenview Funeral Home in Florence. Funeral services will be held at North Wood Methodist Church in Florence on Friday at 11 a.m.

Jones, the long-time face of University of North Alabama athletics, began his head coaching career at Montevallo in 1969.    story


Falcons add five for 2008-09


MONTEVALLO (7/24) – The University of Montevallo men's basketball team has added five student-athletes for the 2008-09 season, it has been announced by head coach Danny Young.

Freddy Little (Bunn, N.C.), Jordan Ragan (Las Vegas, Nev.), Marcus Lancaster (Grand Rapids, Mich.),  Adam Krych (Morris, N.J.) and Nate Flowers (Waldorf, Md.) will join the Falcons this season.    more
