-- Three members of the University of Montevallo
Falcon baseball team have been named
to the All-Gulf South Conference
Teams, it has been announced.
Senior outfielder Eric Moore
and senior starting pitcher Zac
Blakney have been named to the
First Team All-GSC. Senior first
baseman Daniel Furuto has
been selected to the Second Team
All-GSC.
Moore leads the Gulf South
Conference in stolen bases (44) and
is the team leader in several
offensive categories including
batting (.358), slugging percentage
(.574), runs scored (60), base hits
(73), doubles (15 - tied with B.J.
Holloway) triples (4), total bases
(117) and hit by pitch (13). He has
also collected 23 multi-hit and nine
multi-RBI games and owned a seven
game hitting streak earlier this
season. Moore was also a First Team
All-GSC selection in 2007.
Blakney is among the GSC leaders in
victories (8) and leads the team in
games started (13), strikeouts (81)
and innings pitched (72.2). He also
has four complete games, one shutout
victory and opponents are hitting
.246 (lowest on staff) against.
Blakney has an 8-2 record and 3.47
ERA heading into the weekend.
Furuto leads the team in on-base
percentage (.439), leads the team
and is among leaders in the GSC in
home runs (11) and RBI (49). Both he
and Eric Moore hit three home runs
in a game (Moore vs. West Georgia,
Furuto vs. West Alabama) to tie a
school single-game record. He is
currently batting (.328), collected
14 multi-hit and a team-high 13
multi-RBI games, while posting a
nine-game hitting streak. Furuto was
named to the Second Team All-GSC in
2006.
UM (33-13) will compete at the 2008
Gulf South Conference Baseball
Championships, beginning on
Saturday. UM the No. 3 seed in the
East will meet No. 7 nationally
ranked Southern Arkansas University
(No. 2 - West) in a first-round game
Saturday at 9:30 a.m. The game is
scheduled to be broadcast on
UM Internet Radio, with Arky Shea
Bartlett describing the play-by-play
action. You will need to have the
