Former UM Baseball Coach Fred Weems
Passed Away at age 70
BAY ST. LOUIS, Miss. –
Former University of Montevallo
baseball head coach Fred Weems passed
away this past Tuesday (May 12).
He headed the Montevallo baseball
program for two seasons leading the
Falcons to the 1972 Southern States
Conference Championship after the
University did not field a team in 1971
due to budget constraints. He was named
the Conference Coach of the Year that
season as well. After the 1973 season he
left to become a successful high school
coach in the Bay St. Louis, Mississippi
area. He spent over 20 years in the high
school ranks before retiring.

Norman Named to the All-South Region
Second Team
MONTEVALLO, Ala. –
Senior
Ryan Norman (Hoover, Ala./Hoover)
of the University of Montevallo baseball
team was awarded a spot on the
Daktronics All-South Region Second Team.
This is Norman’s first All-Region
selection of his career.

Falcons Awarded Two Gulf South
Conference Honors
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. –
The University of Montevallo baseball
team was awarded two honors by the Gulf
South Conference. The Falcons were
honored with the GSC East Division
Freshman of the Year and awarded a spot
on the All-Gulf South Conference East
Division First Team. Former Hoover High
School standouts Ryan Norman (Hoover,
Ala./Hoover) and Duston Daugherty
(Hoover, Ala./Hoover) helped lead
the Falcons this season with Norman
being a senior and Daugherty coming in
as a freshman.
