The
purpose of the Astronomy Club is to promote general awareness of science and
mathematics through the conduit of astronomy, and to help interested parties
learn about the configuration of the night sky, the empirical basis of
modern astronomical theory, and the variety of celestial objects that can be
studied by the amateur astronomer. The Astronomy Club will meet every few
weeks for naked eye and telescopic observation at a convenient dark
location, and will host events for interested groups on campus and
The
Astronomy Club is open to everyone who wants to learn about the practice and
history of astronomy. Using the facilities of the James Wylie Shepherd
Observatory, we will explore the night sky and the sun during our regular
meetings. Meetings will begin in Harman Hall room 229. After a very brief
introduction, we will all carpool to the observation site. Those not wanting
to carpool are also welcome to meet us at the location. Directions to the
JWSO can be found
