The Biology program features a diverse curriculum in Biology and provides pre-professional programs for students pursuing admission into medical, dental, veterinarian, pharmacy and optometry schools. Active faculty research programs provide research opportunities to undergraduate students who are interested in graduate school or careers in biology-based laboratories. The Biology program is also a member of the Marine Environmental Sciences Consortium, dedicated to providing marine education, research and service to UM students. A minor in Biology is also offered. Our goal as a department is to produce the best students possible, but in a way that is enjoyable during the time they are at UM.
The Biology minor consists of BIO 105: Introductory Biology I and BIO 106: Introductory Biology II; BIO 205: Ecology or BIO 206: Genetics; and 8 additional hours in biology courses, with at least 4 hours from courses numbered 300 or above
