Alabama's Public Liberal Arts University

Art Department - Photography

Beginning Photography introduces 35 mm camera functions, film development and printing, and the esthetics of photography. The study of photography continues in sequence with Intermediate Photography and Advanced Black and White. Students seeking a concentration in photography can select from advanced courses including Studio Photography, Alternative Processes and Historic Processes. Portfolio is an opportunity for advanced students to focus on individual problems and develop a related body of work prior to the senior show. History of Photography is taught as an advanced art history course.

The photography suite has just undergone a complete renovation and includes a large darkroom, film processing and changing area, student lockers, a lecture and critique room, and a secondary darkroom for advanced students. The main darkroom for beginning and intermediate classes has 9 Besseler enlargers. Each enlarger station is equipped with printing easels, focusing and printing supplies.
