announces a live streaming video web broadcast of an anagama firing
Watch the 40 foot, 300+ cubic foot anagama, “Fat Bastard”, go through its paces from the comfort of your own home or office!“Clicking ain’t stoking, but what the heck is?” -Scott Meyer, Prof. of Art, UM.
Dates: Web Broadcasts
#1: May 20th, Loading at 2 P.M .
#2: May 22nd, Lighting at 1 P.M.
#3: May 26th, Full Blast at Noon (Side stoking, firebox tricks, 2400 degrees, flames and fun)
#4: June 2nd, Unloading at Noon*Note: All times Central (All webcasts will be 1 hour long)
Fun Facts:
-“Fat Bastard” was built by Meyer with his students at the University of Montevallo.
-Finished Spring ’02, this is its 10th firing.
-Peter Callas fired its maiden voyage.
-The Fat Bastard consumes between 12 and 14 cords of wood in the 100 hour firing.
-Artists with Meyer who have fired work in the kiln include:Peter Callas, Scott Bennett, Chris Greenman, Rick Hirsch, Gunnar Kaldewey, Janet Mansfield, Larry Manning, Richard Notkin and Tony Wright.
Kiln philosophy: Respect the tradition. Push the boundaries.
