E.J. Wilson

Current job title:

Child Artist Coordinator/Stage Manager

Cirque du Soleil

Recent accolades:
USITT 2009 Young Designers & Technicians Stage Management Award.

Words of wisdom:
My favorite quote always comes to mind by E.E. Cummings…
“To be nobody but yourself, in a world which is doing its best night and day to make you like everybody else; means to fight the hardest battle which any human being can fight, and never stop fighting.”

If you have a dream, set goals to accomplish that dream, and just go for it.  Everything else will just work itself out and fill in the gaps.

I also believe in terms of your own career path, you are exactly where you are supposed to be and doors will open when they need to as long as you are susceptible to those doors opening.

Who would you like to thank for your success?
My mom of course, Sherry Wilson, for all of her support when I chose the arts as a career path.
Dr. David Callaghan (UM professor, Theatre Chair)
Emily Gill (UM professor; Costumes)
Kel Laeger (UM professor, Technical Theatre)
Christopher Digsby (Cirque du Soleil, General Stage Manager)
Vicki Shenk (Cirque du Soleil, Assistant Company Manager)

How did Montevallo affect your career choice?
Without UM, I would not be where I am today.  UM opened my eyes to theatre. Having a smaller student body, it allowed me to be seen for my talents and not lost in a huge student body where you are just a number going to class.  Building the personal relationships I made and still have with my professors was key and I still use them as references, bounce ideas off of them and consider them good friends to this day.

What was your favorite aspect of Montevallo?
Everything about the campus and the atmosphere it contains.  It’s such a wonderful, special place.
