Freshman S.O.A.R and Take Flight Week

Freshmen entering Montevallo in the Fall Semester of 2008 have the opportunity for early registration through their participation in S.O.A.R (Student Orientation and Registration).  Occurring on Tuesday, July 15th and Wednesday, July 16th; S.O.A.R. allows incoming freshmen to meet with an academic advisor from their major area of study and register for fall semester classes well in advance of the beginning of the semester.   Students who participate in one of the two sessions will find a significantly larger selection of freshman year classes as opposed to the availability of classes for those who register during Take Flight Days.

Beginning May 1st, admitted freshmen will be able to register on-line for one of the two S.O.A.R. dates.  Parents Orientation also occurs on these two dates, and offers a separate program for parents and family members of entering freshmen.  No separate reservation is needed to attend Parents Orientation.
 

Take Flight, occurring August 20th - 22nd, is the process by which new students are acclimated to campus, meet other freshmen, and are made aware of the many academic and social opportunities available to Montevallo students. Programming typically includes UM student-led information sessions giving student perspectives of all facets of campus life. A variety of content sessions are offered, ranging from how students can get involved in some of the many student organizations to the academic and social requirements for which students are held responsible. Student activities are planned for each evening of Orientation. Students who do not attend a S.O.A.R. session will register for their Fall Semester classes as part of Take Flight week.
