Academic Alert Program - Resources for Student Support Staff

The University of Montevallo's Academic Alert Program allows faculty members to refer struggling students for assistance. The advisors or student support staff members who receive these referrals attempt to contact the students in order to connect them to college resources.

What is my role as a Student Support Staff member?

  • Student Support Staff will receive a list of referrals in the 5th and 10th weeks of the semester.
  • Student Support Staff will then access Banner to review the details of each referral and contact students for advising.
  • After advising the student, Student Support Staff submit an Advisor Action Form in Banner.
  • Finally, Student Support Staff e-mail the professor who made the referral with a brief description of the outcome.

If a student can not be contacted, Student Support Staff should still submit an Advisor Action Form in Banner and e-mail the professor who made the initial referral.

Step-by step instructions for accessing and filing the form can be found at this link.

Feedback to Faculty

Faculty can indicate that they want to receive feed-back when they make a referral. Student Support Staff members should send an e-mail to faculty who request feedback with a short description of the outcome of the referral. The e-mail should document attempts to contact the student and describe the outcome of interactions with referred students.
