Academic Alert Program - Resources for Academic Advisors
The University of Montevallo's Academic Alert Program allows faculty members to refer struggling students for assistance. The advisors or student support staff members who receive these referrals attempt to contact the students in order to connect them to college resources.
What is my role as an Academic Advisor?
- Academic advisors will receive a list of referrals from their department chair in the 5th and 10th weeks of the semester.
- Advisor's will then access Banner to review the details of each referral and contact students for advising.
- After advising the student, advisors submit an Advisor Action Form in Banner.
- Finally, advisors e-mail the professor who made the referral with a brief description of the outcome.
If a student can not be contacted, advisors should still submit an Advisor Action Form in Banner and e-mail the professor who made the initial referral.
Step-by step instructions for accessing and filing the form can be found at this link.
Feedback to Faculty
After advising the student, advisors should send an e-mail to the faculty who made the referral with a short description of the outcome of the referral. The e-mail should document attempts to contact the student and describe the outcome of interactions with referred students.
