Applying for Services

Students with disabilities are encouraged to contact Disability Support Services (DSS) prior to or upon enrollment at the University. Students must complete the Application for Services and provide documentation as needed (see documentation guidelines). Requests for services and accommodations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and must relate specifically to the student’s disability. DSS staff may act as a liaison regarding any disability accommodations.

Deadlines

  • Requests for services and accommodations will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and must relate directly to the students’ disability. DSS staff may act as a liaison regarding any disability accommodations, which may include coordinating with appropriate faculty, staff or other campus officials.

There is no “deadline” for asking for many academic accommodations, however, the University reserves the right to have sufficient notice to make appropriate determinations, and to properly implement those accommodations. The following requests do have published priority deadlines:

    • Accessible housing assignments
    • Dietary/meal plan modifications
    • Alternate format requests
    • Requests for interpreting or real-time captioning
    • Test proctoring

While requests will be reviewed at any time, the University may not be able grant the request (or immediate implementation) due to a lack of sufficient notice.  Please note that priority deadlines may be modified as necessary and will always be published online.

Available Accomodations

Accommodations and services may include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Extended time on tests and exams
    • Distraction-reduced testing

    • Accessible technology (hardware, software, media, etc.)

    • Sign Language Interpreting/Captioning
    • Alternate format texts and materials
    • Assistive listening system
    • Accessible parking

Note: Accommodations are not retroactive, nor should they alter essential elements of the course or curriculum.  Students should contact DSS immediately if they experience difficulty in the accommodation process.
