Counseling Services

The Mission of UM Counseling Services is to provide students with counseling, consultation, training, and resources designed to promote academic success, personal and social growth throughout and beyond their educational experience.

We are here to help you navigate the challenges of college life. Our services are free, confidential and available to all currently enrolled students, faculty and staff.


  • INDIVIDUAL COUNSELING Meet with a counselor one-on-one to learn how to deal with life’s challenges.

    Short-term individual counseling is available at no cost to currently enrolled students, faculty, and staff. Our counselors are available to help you manage the stress of being a college student, improve your relationships, balance your responsibilities, and handle everyday life, among other things. In addition, our counselors are trained and experienced in treating a variety of mental health issues.

  • GROUP COUNSELING Groups provide a time for students to meet with others in similar situations.

    Each semester, groups are offered to help students learn how to cope more effectively with life, learn new knowledge and skills, and connect with people who have similar experiences or situations.


    Students can meet with the case manager for help managing complex issues. Our case manager can help you get connected to campus and community resources, serve as an advocate, and help you make a plan to be successful at UM.


    Each semester, workshops are offered to help students learn to better manage college life.

    Counseling Services staff is available to consult and assist members of the UM community with helping individuals they are concerned about or concerning situations.


    If you are experiencing an emergency or need immediate assistance, call (205)665-6245 or stop by the CS Office during normal business hours. For after hours emergencies, call the Crisis Center at (205)323-7777. If this is a life threatening emergency, contact UMPD at(205)665-6155 or go to the closest emergency room.
