About Us
The Physical Plant Division provides the infrastructure and facilities so the teaching mission can be accomplished. The Physical Plant is proactive in controlling energy and utility costs to help provide a low-cost education for the students.
The Physical Plant Division is responsible for the maintenance of university buildings and grounds, new construction and renovation, utilities, mail service, inventory and campus police. These functions are carried out with a director, assistant director, and eight supervisors over functional areas of heating and cooling, plumbing, masonry, carpentry, electrical, painting, and central warehouse. The chief of campus police also reports to the Director of Physical Plant. The grounds maintenance and housekeeping or janitorial maintenance is contracted to Johnson Controls, Inc. and reports to the Director of Physical Plant. A total of fifty-three (53) employees serve in the Physical Plant Division.
Our department is here to serve the University of Montevallo community, and we are continuously searching for ways to improve our service. One of our goals is to improve communication with the faculty, staff, and students. We have made several changes to accomplish this goal, which include our new website, our new emergency broadcast system, SchoolCast, and our new online work order program, MaintenanceDirect.
