In Case of Emergency What to do if there is an on campus injury (faculty, staff, student, or visitor)? The University Police Department should be notified of all incidents resulting in injuries (regardless of the severity of the injury), so that documentation of the incident can be recorded. The Alabama Workers' Compensation Act does not apply to employment with state agencies and institutions, such as the University. Therefore, in the case of an injury on campus, medical expenses should first be filed with your personal insurance policies and then all out-of-pocket medical expenses should be filed with the Alabama State Board of Adjustment for reimbursement. In addition to contacting the UM Police Department, contractors and vendors should follow the protocol outlined by their employers. UM employee leave taken for an on-the-job injury should be charged to on the job injury hours; such leave will be reinstated upon confirmation of the absence being OTJ- related. Please contact the Director of Human Resources and Risk Management for assistance with an OTJ injury claim. (Refer to policy 01:145) Contact: Barbara Forrest Director of HR and Risk Management Station 6055 Phone Number: 205-665-6055
