Student Affairs Vision Statement

 

The Division of Student Affairs, by its willingness to invest in the lives of students, affirms and endeavors to make the University of Montevallo Mission a reality. Division members will:

 

Be accessible to students by
providing activities, information, resources and referral in a timely, personal and sensitive manner

Teach personal responsibility and accountability to students by
skills development in decision-making, coping, human relationships
clarification of individual values, choices and consequence
development of appropriate self-advocacy
investigation of practical issues related to employment
encouragement of life-long learning

Assist students/support faculty in attaining academic goals by
tutoring
career exploration
study skills instruction
advising
developing employability skills
reinforcing student's goals focus and motivation
functioning as resources for faculty

Promote a sense of community and citizenship in students by
developing awareness, understanding, appreciation of human diversity
fostering meaningful relationships with others
identifying and developing leadership skills
encouraging community service activities
supporting student involvement in university programs

Foster opportunities for comprehensive health and wellness by
psychological counseling
physical and recreational programs
anti-substance abuse guidance
preventive physical and mental health concerns and crises

Contribute to students retention by
engaging in student research
identifying and responding to factors affecting retention
creating DSA programs designed to increase retention
supporting university initiatives which positively impact students
